Weather in maps

Post by Elektro »

It would be cool if in some maps with carriers there was rain, and the helicopters used there window wipers :D Or maybe even wind, were the helis could be harder to land with.

Dynamic weather isnt possible in bf2 sadly. And it was already suggested. Read through this thread for all the most commonly suggested things, most of which re either impossible, or too hard to do in bf2 to be going in any time soon :)

Weather is pretty much not possible to any great affect in PR/BF2.

You can add sandstorms or rain but its not too great, its client side, meaning if YOU are totally blinded at one time, someone next to you might not be.

Rain is hard to do in 3d, so might only be an in front of the screen sort of thing[though Im not sure]

I think in general, weather just doesnt really have enough realism to really work on the engine.

Like wind, I dont think it could effect anything... :\

Might get a strong wind sound and make the grass wave a lot more and quicker, etc. But it wouldnt be much more than that Im afraid :) Could be neat though

I remember Rhino talking about rain in BF2 is limited to always go from the top to bottom of the player's screen.

While it might not sound like too much of an issue it would look really weird with horizontal rain when looking up :)

thats why PR should be built in the Crysis engine you could do sooooo much more and have more detailed environments with decent physics and destructible buildings

weather that effects the enviroment and players you could have strong winds that slow you down when running into them and speed you up when running with them

and you can have decent particle effect like waves and rain!

And you do realise that then at least half of the PR community couldn't even run PR anymore due to the fact that Crysis is a sadist to PC's everywhere. Also all the years of work would have to be scraped and started all over.

Crysis, crysis... a game that should've been released years after it originally was. Playing an fps with an average of 30-35 frames per second is not fun at all... And it wasn't much better even with a high-end PC back then. I can't even imagine what playing PR with Crysis-engine would be like: awesome graphics, 300+ ping, <10 fps. Let's just stick to the BF2-engine then. ;-)

they were going to but the 360/ps3 didn't have enough memory they could fit it on the disks but the consoles wouldn't run it!

fair enough back on topic

Weather would be awesome i would love to see just some weather that really impedes visibility and maybe adds a new way to play the game maybe if you stay in the rain for too long you walk even slower because your equipment is soaked in water

or if your vehicle is caught in a strong side wind it could get thrown off the road

Snipers could have difficulty seeing in fog so infantry would have an advantage and snipers would have to rely you being above the horizon to see a silhouette

How come this hasn't been locked? Not to try and sound like "OMG! n00b resuggestion" kinda guy, but it is a resuggestion, and on top of that one of which isn't possible.

Rain is possible and I believe Eve of destruction bf2 mod has a night map with rain in it. The rain looks awkward when looking verticaly, but it's not TOO bad, as for how it looks in general, it's not that bad either.

The only problem is rain, I imagine, is an fps monster that would be spammy if used too much.. Would be cool to see rain on OGT or Tad Sae, IMHO, it'd make pleople play OGT 10x more

Well only one game comes to mind here Arma enough said end of story go to bed.

Arma2 Will be PR's next engine If and only If they keep the 128 players stable like in Arma and not be totally player vs AI if them 2 points are met they will be going to arma2 don't like it to bad Arma2 will be fully open to mods from A to Z no hard coded they already stated it will be just as mod able as Arma is and the maps in arma are so big it can take you a hour to fly from point A to point B on a few maps that include the max map size

But Arma2 may be player vs AI based and unstable if it is PR will not go to arma2
