Apache Gunner Swivel Mounted Hydras
Yeah if most of you guys knew of this, sorry I never knew until I saw a clip of a prototype Apache hovering with it's rocket pods swiveling up and down.
My idea is this. Give the Apache Gunner(and any other helicopter gunner that has this capability) control over the hydras, with up and down movement capability. I'd say the first wepaon slot would suffice since I never saw the pods swivel side to side. That or add its own little gun camera and the up and down swivelling.
And I searched swivel rockets and got nothing. Probably not the best search query but I couldn't think of any other words

I agree, since bf2 can let you move a turret while driving at the same time, and you can restrict views to a limited arc i.e. up and down, this is surely possible and would allow pilots to attack ground targets without gaining too much acceleration.

I think what he is saying is guide the hydras like a mounted tow. So when you shoot you can move your chopper up and down and kind of control where the missle hits. Say if you the pilot and you are engaging a moving truck and you shoot a hydra and you move your cross hair after fire the missle follows the cross hair.

Unless in doing so you can provoke a change in the hud, then it doesn´t seem so useful, but I don´t know who you want to control this.
For example, in real life an apache gunner will aim at a target, the pilot lines up his monocle crosshair with the gunners crosshair, and then fires. Of course thats only one way of doing it.
@Rudd. Well for example you could have pilot controlled swiveling pods with "shift" input to put them a full rotation, and they automatically flip back. Maybe there are other ways, but imo not worth it, as you would need the HUD to adjust aswell, and we can´t simulate realistic pippers.

Re: Apache Gunner Swivel Mounted Hydras
One good use for them is pointing them down so the pilot can fly roughly level and the hydras will fire towards the ground. This means you dont have to dive down to strafe an area.
However, good luck getting that to work ingame.....

Re: Apache Gunner Swivel Mounted Hydras
Would it be at all possible to let both gunner and pilot control them? So if needed the gunner could take control and fire them at an angle?

Anyone here tried BF pirates ?
On biggest ships you can move the side cannons upward and downward with the open/close keys (I'm afraid they are in boats controls only, not Helicopter ones
). Any chance to get the same toggles moving the rocket pods on PR's attack choppers ?

sry didn't know if it was, couldn't think of what other words to usearjan wrote:yeah resuggestion, i made one a year ago.
What I'm saying is give the gunner control of htis since you can't give it to the pilot then you can have the pods tilt up and down

I dont like the idea of the gunner controlling all the weapons, afaik pilot controls the hydras IRL to

Re: Apache Gunner Swivel Mounted Hydras
I have this working on my helicopters.
I put the hydra on rotational bundles. You press shift and they begin to rotate downwards. When you let go they go back up. I don't know the official range of motion the articulated pylons have. Alex never got back to me on that.
To get the reticule to aim right you can do one of three things:
1 - Move the pilot's camera in synchronization with the pylons which is extremely easy to do but makes piloting a bit weird if you hold the pylons down while flying.
2 - Set the reticule as a compass in the hud and move it with the pylons. I haven't done this so it is only theoretical. The issue with this is what you link the compass node to. The only one would be vehicleturretangle but that might pick up the gunner's turret instead or have glitchy movement.
3 - Put a crosshair mark on the hud that let's you know where to aim when the turret is at maximum depression.

That could work, but I think the main purpose of this system is for teh up and down motion of hovering

Re: Apache Gunner Swivel Mounted Hydras
You shouldn't hover.
However, having it on an articulated pylon won't solve that issue.

@ Delta :IRL if the apache is using its hydras on a target, that means its quite close, so the pilot will be moving, and be on attack runs.
@soild knight, sounds like some good tinkerin there mate
, and how weird is it to fly with the pylons fully downwards, as in cant see anything but inner cockpit, or can see still but the HUD is wayy of? (eg artificial horizon)

Re: Apache Gunner Swivel Mounted Hydras
i was seriously going to suggest this same exact same last week. as it is right now in game, if you wanna hit something on the ground with your hydras it ends up tilting your chopper, thus making you fly forward and down. in real life, apaches can hover in one spot and fire hydras because the hydra launchers can be tilted up and down. if this was implemented in the pr, i think the best way to do it is to bind the up and down tilt action to some unused buttons. maybe modify the hud a little so you know where they will go. i would say dont even bother animating the actual tilting of the rocket pods because no one is going to see it anyway. anyway delta you beat me to this suggestion but thats cool its still a great suggestion.
