I saw that Battlefield2 could be downloaded for free somewhere? is this true...

And no, you cant get BF2 for free. Legally.

More people than ever play the mod.
One of the Project Reality servers (TG) is the #2 most active BF2 server, second only to that 24/7 Karkand one for normal BF2.
What do you need?
1) A working copy of BF2.
2) A fast enough internet connection for internet games
3) $5 for a cheap microphone
The game can't be (legally) downloaded for free. If you bootleg it, then you won't be able to play multiplayer, which is the point of the game anyway. It should be pretty cheap now though, it's been out for a while.

A potential player, great! Not that we need more, there is alot of PR players out there allready but the more the better I`d say
