Tanks/Choppers can't cap.
Here is a suggestion I came up.
As a suggestion, why don't we make it so that no vehicles can cap flags at all? Some will see this suggestion as harsh, but it would make them more of a supporting feature then a tank being able to cap a flag single handedly. Maybe this can be limited to just tanks and choppers, but leave the cars the same as they are now. It may bring about a little spawn camping by the tanks or choppers, but that would mean that the team attacked would have more time to counterattack.
Anyone else's thoughts.

It would also slow the game down a bit too, and personally I like that. The tanks and APCs rushing from the start of Steel Thunder would need to wait up for the troops before rushing to get the caps, and on other maps the team won't be able to rush the first cap points with the choppers. Would it be better to apply this to transport choppers as well? I don't see why everyone can't just hop out...

This idea is alos from ETQW, i did sugggest it about a 1 week ago but hay. If you are goign to do this, do it for all vehicles, i will improve gampaly alot AND if we have more covered up jeeps (slightly armoured HUmvee) it would become boring, sitting in a jeep requires no skill BUT TO SET UP A CORDON AROUND THE FLAG and prepare to defend it from 3 angles on foot IN A TEAM, requirs skill.
MAKING PEOPLE GET OUT OF JEEPS will not make PR gameplay less fun, IT WLL increase team work encouraging people to IMEDIATELY use tactics as soon as they dismout = REALITY ON TAP. Dont do a half assed job, go all the way or dont, it is that simple, small changes dont improve gamplay atall, big ones do! SO SUPERSIZE IT!

Make sure if this is implemented then it apply's to every vehical exsept transport choppers, i think transports are needed to be able to cap flags because sometimes its imposable to just cap one until a Blackhawk with its miniguns comes along. And it also takes skill to sit in a helicopter under fire just so your team can respawn (After last allied spawn point is taken). It pissed me off when there is a jet flying around, the amount of times the alert thing goes off is enough to make you cry!

On topic, I think the the transport choppers should be able to cap if they are daring enough to hover that low

Not really, but if he's flying in troops he can drop them off and either set the bird down or go back for a second wave of infantry.six7 wrote:On topic, I think the the transport choppers should be able to cap if they are daring enough to hover that low
Hovercapping should be banned as you can't hold the ground with just a helo, especially a transporthelo.
But, as I said, he could set down or, ahem, drop his troops by fastrope... Sorry

Mebey, it goes up faster if you have a heli above you, this only happens whne you have atleast 3 guys on thee ground:
- this encourages high quality flying by blackhawk
- and gives a decent reason to provide low support
just an idea really
WHAT I REALLY WANT TO SEE: is you can only jump out of a chopper when it is no more than 5 metres from the ground with out being killed or seriously injsured, it might be slightly unrealistic BUT WE CANT HAVE injuries and it is far more realistic to go for extreme consquencies rather than the opposite!
THIS would mean:
pilots would have to land their black hawk, requires more skill than a quick fly by
Men would have to be put down in some situations, away from the flag and then have to fight their way in - this is realitic really

A heli wouldn't just stand there in real life and take that kind of fire and it is a risk to lose a chopper for 1 damn point. We also had the problem with the chopper caps in the beginning of BF2, so why should we re impliment it? Let them have to fly back and pick everyone up after they have done the fighting or you will just be playing ring around the rosie with the flags.
The whole point of this suggestion is that everyone should be out of the vehicles in order to cap which really requires teamwork and skill to clear the area.
ANd seriously, if you don't want to risk landing the chopper, drop them in someone close and let them walk the rest of the way like in real life or how SF do it. That is usually better because it doesn't bring attention.

Top Cat, you need to stop contradicting yourself, every suggestion you make totally contradicts the last and your ideas continuously change, and you seem to bring the topic of a slightly armoured humvee into every post.
Tanks and APCs should not be able to capture command points alone. It's not so bad on your team, as getting out of your tank or APC isn't as risky as vBF2, as there's no fear of getting 'jacked, but there's still the negative of losing your defence. Hey, it still works as a nice big wall if you're hiding behind it. This change will influence players to take tanks and APCs with at least one passenger if they rush off to the first command posts. That's a bonus.
Attack helicopters (and of course jets too) should not be able to capture command posts. They can protect them by all means, but hovering over a command post is kinda unfair as they can wreak death from above (or from right in front of you if they're good pilots) and it's not so easy shooting those things. I once saw someone capture a flag with a hover jet in vBF2, kinda unbelievable but it is possible. Anyway, these two vehicles will now be pushed away from the flag capture role, a definite plus for teamplay.
Transport vehicles for all classes should be able to capture flags, but only if there is someone present in the driver's seat. I don't know if this is possible to implement, and if not it'd do no harm to cut it all together, but having to have at least one person in the jeep prevents someone driving ahead, hitting F2 and gunning everyone down until support arrives. You either get out or sit at the wheel. This influences transport being used by the transports. That's a definite bonus.
Transport helicopters should work in the opposite way. Only passengers can capture the flags, not the driver. Solo pilots will need to land and change seats or get out completely, there'll be no hovering solo. A team could be dropped off to cap the flag or the pilot could pull off a hover (a dangerous manuever if the flag is sought after) but the pilot himself has no effect on the capture.
As for boats, well they tend not to have a great part in flag capturing, the only real chance they have to capture a flag is the beach on Wake. Probably the same rules as the transport could be implemented, otherwise just ban it altogether. While on the subject of boats, if we ever see chinese and MEC boats implemented, I sure hope boats, like choppers and heavy vehicles, become team specific. Sneaking round with a boat then getting out is suicide, the big empty boat symbol appears on the map and anyone with two brain cells can work out there are people down there, it's just like having the UAV back.
As for the quad bike that appears to be on the cards soon, I don't see why that can't cap flags.

lol that is me and my contradicting, i do it at school, and get in a mess when it comes to games i like, i am also constanyly changing what cakes i llike, at present i think all of the supermarket stuff is boring, but i might come back in a day or a week or 2!
I will try and keep the Armoured humvee thing down now, it might pop up in revalent posts but i will save it for around PR1 and 1.1, ok.
Ok, i will admit i am not that sure, i know that attact helis, tnaks and APC;s should not be able, as you sayed.
But i am not so sure about Jeeps and transport Helis. I need to consider how each would affect gameplay more = more thinking.
I am grate full for well explained ideas so i can clearly understand what they are trying to suggest. BUT IT WOULD also be extremely help full is a number of reasons are provided as to how it will improve gameplay and any douts that ensure a fair proposal and even a mini conclusion can be helpfull if you have the time. cheers
