I asked Fuzzhead about this personally in game through VOIP. The answer is that, this prevents new players from NOT finding servers. Since there are only about 90 servers, its not a big deal.

^This is true. I remember in .6 PR when I first tried it. I uninstalled the game because I didn't know how to set the filters to find servers to play PR. I thought the mod was dead. I gave the MOD another try in .7, this time I read the manual. :)

In other words, this was intentional.

Right now we have 100+ servers, as soon as that amount dies down the server list wont be that long.

I hardcoded the server filters to stop people being unable to find servers. The amount of people who don't know how to set up their filters properly to find all the servers is pretty amazing, people who didn't check punkbuster, people who still had ranked servers ticked, etc. So, to simplify the process, I removed them and locked them to the right ones.

You can still limit servers pretty easily though through the text filters at the top, so not all is lost.

Search Filters Removed?

Post by Stealthzy »

I can't help but notice that the search filters have been removed in 0.85. Why? Its quite frustrating that I can't filter out small maps and empty servers now.

Also, I don't know if its just me (it probably is; I'm playing through EA Bugloader) but I seem to crash to desktop much more often in this newer version. I've yet to sucessfully load 2 maps in a row. I'm easily running the game on max graphics so its not a requirements problem.

Keep up the good work though, 0.85 is great.

Filters? Read the other thread that is slightly below yours.

CTD? No idea. Vista? My guess is that your RAM maxed out then memory crashed. Try lowering your settings. But usually after a some time, it should go away. If not, go empty your BF2 graphics cache.

Well it would be cool anyway if the User was somehow able to "reactivate" those filters, accepting a warnung message if you want so, what about that?

I understand the problem for new player not to find servers but not to be rude but seriously... A monkey could find servers...

Thats probably the biggest menu modification we think is odd but gotta deal with it eh... I used to use it to see only populated servers but I guess I'm gonna see all servers. No big deal, just odd.

still love pr

not to sound rude but we are not all bloody idiots you know, i know how to set filters as i dont want to scroll through hundreds of empty servers i will never play on. very bad move IMO.

i know its not that much of a big deal but i sure hope this tending to the lowest common denominator is NOT the beginning of a trend.

Well, I also noticed this, but, tbh, its really not such a big problem.
I always sort my servers by the number of player on it and then I choose one. So, no problem for me!

I agree. While I have no real problem with the removal of the server filters, I do think this was setting the bar pretty low. I hope that this does not become a trend. If it does just give us rifles called 1337s that has bullets that seek the enemy. Insta pwn. Don't lower yourselves too far.

Also while I have little problems with the filter removal, it would be nice to be able to imdividually unlock the filters and tweak them.

Come on guys, this is just a common problem that players would sign on and couldn't find servers. As always we will see how this goes and if its a problem we will change it. But for now this is the way it is. Our menu coders will take a look at it and see what they can do.

Its in no way Noobing the game.

For example, if you enter in the box, bellow "Players", number 1 and press enter, it will list you only populated servers.

Clicking on "Players" will sort the server list by amount of players.

So, looking from a bright side, your internet filters are actually updated now, easier to use & stealthy!

So its not because 95 of 100 serveradmins said please disable filters because nobody can see our servers?

All you have to do is click the "player number" text - it will then rank the servers based on number of players. Theres never more than a handful of populated servers, so its easy to find one youre looking for.

Whats the big deal? If it helps "noobs" and doesnt affect "pros" then it all seems good.

It would be good to have the ping filter though (either manaully set, or default set to say max 200)
