Yeah, I have a 20GB cap(sucks and I have shoddy DL speed) and I never go over, you'll be fine mate, just don't download too much porn

According to my netlimiter, the bf2.exe has used 8,12GiB down and 1,47GiB up in the year 2008 so I think you dont need to worry

40Gb is still a stack of download limit. That figure isn't strictly speaking your Bandwidth, it's a limit for volume. Compared to downloads gaming is next to nothing. Bandwidth is about throughput not volume.
If you want to test bandwidth - try here Open Directory - Computers: Data Communications: Testing and Tools: Bandwidth Tests
Otherwise, if you have a decent router, you shouldn' notice any slowdown if your sister doesn't end up streaming 3 videos and upload/download constantly - with you doing the same.
go with the 8mb unless downloading is 24/7 for you.
