Pilot, where are we going?
I hate when this happen.. I am at muttrah carrier and I call for a helo, helo comes and my squad boards it. I type on the teamchat grid and keypad where to I want him to take my squad. Pilot confirms and we took off. The I notice that the pilot isn't going the direction that where the designated dropzone is. I re-type the cordinates. He confirms and lands on eastcity next to the mosque. We bail out and take cover. Sadly our team hasn't even capped the docks or nortcity.
Later I type and ask why did he bring us here? He asks me why not there?
-Because we can't cap this flag and it's not the place I told you to?
-Why can't you cap it?
At this point I wonder did't the guy read the manual, but the he notices the fact that eastcity doesn't have a orange shield on it.
- My bad, I come to pick you up.
- No, dont there is an enemy apc here.
But he still comes and gets shot down.
- Told you not to come.
- Wait, let me get another chopper.
Has similar stuff happened to you?

It for this reason that I believe WAYPOINTS should be visible on the 3D map only for pilots.
That way someone can become the commander (even if only for 1 minute) to place the waypoints where chopper/APC drop-offs are cleared.
Or even better, make it so squads can place the markers too, only they can only place one with their Squad Number on it.

Except change the ratio of bullets to empty chambers in the revolver cylinder...Kontrollturm wrote:In PR, Flying with an helo, is like playing Russian Roulette. Thats all i can say!
This happens all the time on pub servers, so much so that I normally just go ahead and designate one of my guys to pilot instead of having some random guy in charge of my squads life.
That or I tell them to spawn below and we ride in slow with the apc or a boat. I wish there was a light apc or more boats in muttrah and less helos...

Re: Pilot, where are we going?
I get very frustrated when people hop in ad ask to go directly to a flag, the action or just don´t say anything.
What you have to consider is:
Pilot may have been told there is aa in area by a squadmate (yes, aa is bad for you), he also has a bigger picture in front of him and may see threats that you don´t, therefore will choose to land in another location, oh dear, you have 2 mins more of walking, but at least we aren´t 1 helicopter 6 tickets (now more actually) down.
Also about pickups are difficult because your squad might be all nice and safe, but what you don´t realise is that 500m away there is an APC/.50/aa that is going to take down that helicopter.
Of course not all the times its like this, but sometimes the pilots are doing their best.

Yeah, thats true also. if I'm in comms with a pilot I just say "if you take fire, bug out"Alex6714 wrote: Of course not all the times its like this, but sometimes the pilots are doing their best.
Rather have to RTB with a full chopper than die trying to make an unworkable LZ work.

Re: Pilot, where are we going?
Its just as frustrating if youre a good pilot, and you see a squad who refuse to use the chopper, who instead head straight towards the enemy you warned them about on foot.
Not all pilots are bad!

Re: Pilot, where are we going?
just as a side note, I once put the hate on a transport chopper on cuda who went off to the east when I wanted to go airfield, but he was going under the bridge to avoid AA, so sorry to that chap. He got us there safe and sound, and made a 2nd trip for supplies. The man deserved a hug

Re: Pilot, where are we going?
Yea, Baracuda's probably one of my favourite maps, especially when I get the chance to pilot the huey
As an experienced dedicated pilot, I've gotta say that there are three things I would appreciate SLs to do more.
Otherwise, as per the OPs request for similar stories, I once played a round of Op Archer, where I created a squad, and within the first minute I got squished by a chopper I was trying to hop into, but which crashed in a n00b RTFMesque way
It was all right, it just meant that my squad had to wait up for me at main. Of course, we no longer had transportation, because the other Huey was long gone, and all the other squads had taken the trucks/humvees
Anyways, we eventually got spawncamped by a technical, and when we finally got a helo to pick us up (after taking out the technical, ofc), it brought us up to the spawn campers, and not the firebase on the other side of the map as I requested.
Pilot: "BAIL OUT"
ME: "hey, this isn't where we wanted"
Pilot:" Bail out!"
ME: "Bring us to the FOB"
Pilot: "Bail out!"
Me: " Oh for Chrissakes, let's hop out, he'll probably crash anyways"
Our squad hops out, the huey trys taking off again, but is at an angle and crashes
We then get engaged by guess who? The spawn campers who heard our chopper. We all die, and I just quit.
As an experienced dedicated pilot, I've gotta say that there are three things I would appreciate SLs to do more.
- First of all, use the "Need transport at this position" system. It can be hard to find the squad you're looking for if you're already in the air, otherwise you often need to land, check map, then go.
- Secondly, don't be afraid to ask for supplies, if only to request kits/ammo. Chopper pilots don't actually have that big of a job that they can't offer supplies at a moments notice, and that they do very well. Once again, be proactive and use the "Need supplies at this coordinate" Q-rose option.
- Finally, when getting transportation/supplies, please, please be proactive when telling the pilot where you want to go. I say this from experience, because pilots having to let go of the controls to type in "So, WTH are we going?" = FAIL.

Re: Pilot, where are we going?
Yesterday, Muttrah.
I hop into a LB. "To C4, hall pls".
Pilot takes off without response. He past the docks and flew straigth to the mosque and kept on flying circles above West- and East-city center, because of several locks (We only had docks, north was grey).
Finally we got shot down. After i asked why he did this: "Sry got distracted".
I spawn on the carrier and jump into a Huey. "C4 np5, hall pls".
Pilot takes off, again without response. Past the docks again and flew along the western road. I typed "Let me out! Let me out!" in combination with a few "Bail out"´s. Suprisingly he listened to me and landed on the road. 20 Seconds after he took off a BTR-60 came by and killed me.
I spawned back at the carrier, ran to the Huey and shot him out (Pilot, if you read this: Im sorry for my stupid behavior, but i was terribly pissed off). Than i got kicked.

Usually I try and type a primary LZ, and then a divert if fire is taken.

Because people never seem to realise that hovering 5 metres above unlandable terrain means get the hell out and I keep getting shot down because of it.
