Yep I agree with 77SiCari077. And also dont forget that they are a company that just want to make money and dont really care about the customers. Yet that is. According to my boss the future of the game industry will be more about service (subscriptions) instead of purchasing a game in the store. In Korea and Japan they already only distribute games like this because of the huge piracy levels (he says)

And one last thing: Its not EA that is making it. Its DICE.

Yes, and iirc this decision was made because server performance wasn't up to par.
I don't think there is any reason to be as pessimistic as some of us are around here, especially since DICE hasn't been the not co operating party some companies could be/are.

I support it but I have my doubts. Firstly i'm not sure the BF2 engine can handle the extra players. 64 is most likely the limit because computers work in 8 bits and 8x8 is 64, increasing the number of players means changing quite a bit of the core.

They may also not agree because with a max of 64 players on each team it keeps the minimum requirements lower, and also the server requirements. An extra 64 players would definately slow it down (more assets, more players for the server to calculate) and it would also mean a players internet connection would need to be higher.

If they cannot do it for bf2, maybe they'll do it for bf3 if enough people ask for it.

They wont listen anyway, theyl just say "It is killing the server to have more that bla bla bla bla" and some other ****...

But every things possible...just look at the MMO's they have more that 64 players and dont crash :D (i know the difference between a FPS and MMO so dont flame me)

Signed. This needs to happen. Although I doubt most servers will be able to handle the load, at least the option will be there for those that can.

I'm damn sure that this is possible with BF2 engine. Actually, of course it is possible. But to do this, engine must be modified. :S

ive seen multiple threads on websites saying that in the beta public thing, the 50.cal was one shot kill, and se4rvers would be 124 ppl max, and i have seen of off postes in the ea website that there are allready files about 124 perons servers

I remember signing way back...yep there is my name. Does anyone know if these online petitions ever work?

You remember the BF2 demo? For a little while, there was talk about support for 128 players. In fact, there is a 128 player version of Dragon Valley still in the server.zip file. Don't believe me? Take a look at your files...

C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\Levels\Dragon_Valley\server.zip\GameModes\gpm_cq\128

It can be done. The reason EA didn't release it with 128 player support was the machines and hardware available to gamers and server providers at the time (2005).

lol, i read that gta san andreas multiplayer has 200 pll support.... lucky ppl..... could you imagian if they set up a 200 person vidio.....

EA never doe this to BF2, cause more then 64 ppl are great for FPS Shooters online. They will make a new game like BF3 or whatever and advertise it with great 128 or 80 Player support.

64 players ? 80 ? 128 ? There was a nice game out joint operations Typhoon rishing which looked as good or better than nilla whch hosted about 150 players, later 250. Too bad it lacked any tools to organize games of that size and thats where vanilla battlefield filled the gap.

JO had lots of players
JO had lots of nice vehicles
JO had lots of nice gunz and sounds and maps
JO had a common map that every1 could organise on etc, so actually it was pretty good on that

JO Did NOT have as good graphics as nilla, no. It did not, they were not as good in any respect; I got nostaligic the other day and resintalled and it looked really bad :D even on high. (I was killerKLINGON if any1 ever played with me in those days. The only thing it wins is view distance (not rendering distance btw, they did this wierd transparency thing instead of undergrowth at distance) Ignoring that JO had no helo physics, a medic system that just plain sucked, you could lag through walls, etc etc etc.
