No, I think the general gist is that you should make use of intelligence. Recon, commanders, that sort of thing to formulate plans that extend beyond the first step (drop squad at LZ marked). Inform them where you will be dropping them if the LZ doesn't turn out the way you hoped. Contingencies are beautiful things.

The ABSOLUTE NO-NO for chopper jockeys is to do "commanding while flying", by dropping people where the PILOT thinks they should be going.

IMO guidelines to any transport situation:
-SL assemble your squad to be ready for a extraction
--> lift off is quicker and safer for both parties
-Pick a safe LZ, also the route, directly from A to B is almost never the best way (for ex. Muttrah, army of vodniks on patrolling the shoreline)
-SL communicate with the pilot for the destination (and route) and wait for him to reply, NO reply = call your squad out of the chopper at once. This applies also to the pilot, no point in dropping 1 mute lonewolf to the front and risk losing the chopper
-SL be last man to get on board and the pilot notices that, then use the "Go,go,go"
-I hate to say this, but LEARN your friendly neighborhood pilots and use them if possible even if it means to wait a minute....

Also, when on the ground, inform the helos the known AA-locations, lots of lives saved...

As for the question "Have this happened to you?" Yes, too often. There are several awesome pilots, but you tend to remember only the worst...

Try doing that with the squads that hop into your chopper and say "to the flag".

Yes, I know the troubles of pilots too, thats why I wrote also to communicate before taking that trip..

"To the flag" or the other infamous comment "To the action"

Thats why we need more communication between the pilots and SLs and also with the new release, more communication between APC drivers and SL.

I like to use this type of LZ designation with pilots, any pilots see something to correct?

"<pilot name> Squad X, 3 men, to A1kp1, route up to you"

And pilots don't take this like SLs are giving you absolute orders, you have your word on the subject too. That helo is your responsibility and so is the squad that boards it, if you think something isn't going to work type it before take off.

After reading these terrors, I have been spurred to attempt to find BF2 at circuit city to show you people how it was done back in my PR days... and to see of course, how it's changed.

I'm sure there are still players on here who remember my high-speed low altitude passes through muttrah's streets, amongst other fun exploits. Loops and barrel rolls as evasion techniques... Man.. i miss it

So, if you hear the telltale sounds of a chopper accompanied by an odd shrieking noise, do not be afraid, it is not a technical difficulty or an incoming missile. It's the one guy who hasn't bailed yet, wetting himself.

if I understand the concept of mumble correctly, you can talk to the people NEAR YOU INGAME

I've only just installed it to have a mess around, I really hope it works cuz then you could TALK TO YOUR PILOT.

using that in conjunction with TS would allow you to realisticly portray voice coms and just...ya know...talking.

Really? Then that should be used more regularly. How does it know how close you are to other players, though? I'll look into it myself.

Please note that mumble works with all games as a regular voice chat application. The games below are the ones we've added positional sound support for, so that the voice of your teammates come from their direction in game. To enable specific game support, go to Configure|Settings|Plugins and check "Link to Game and Transmit Position" then go to Configure|Settings|Audio Output check "Positional Audio". If you use a headset or headphones then check "Headphones".

If you don't want a specific game enabled then simply remove the plugin from the Program Files\Mumble\plugins directory.


Games supported in the current stable release:

* Battlefield 2 (1.41)¹
* Call of Duty 2¹
* Call of Duty 4¹
* Call of Duty: World at War¹
* Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory¹
* Battlefield 2¹

Wow, is this for real? That would make medics job alot easier, when he could locate the guy by sound.

We'll , you'll at least hear where the talking's coming from, but it doesn't say anything about different levels of sound based on distance or anything like that, so i don't know.

in the options there is a max distance and min distance, but the lack of a manual for this thing makes it harder to know exactly what does what.
