Should players speak English in Europe servers?
In Project Reality, there's some things very vital for a good round. 1. That you are in a squad and 2. Communication. Communication both inside and outside the squad. And there's something that annoys me the most that's most likely only in EU servers: LANGUAGE SQUADS.
I know EU is a multi-language nation and that not everyone has English as their native language, but is it really so hard to adapt?
Most of the time when I join a server I see something like the following squad setup:
ENG VOIP 6/6
Random sqd 6/6
Sniper sqd 2/6 (locked)
GER VOIP 5/6
GER INF 4/6
And the moment you enter a German squad, the first thing they ask is: "Bist du Deutsch?". If you say you aren't German they kick you out of the squad. But that means that you're SQUAD has 1 member less and that your TEAM has 1 unassigned players (which are also a pain in the butt).
My request to all German players..I don't have a problem with language squads as long you can fill it with 6 German speakers...but if that's not the case, just let non-germans join and start talking English!

i am German and actually most German squads i was in did this. as long as German speaking players were availably they were prefered since it of course is easier to communicate in your native language. but when there was space left most of the times language was switched to English or at least the important commands were given in English, too.NyteMyre wrote: My request to all German players..I don't have a problem with language squads as long you can fill it with 6 German speakers...but if that's not the case, just let non-germans join and start talking English!

You've got an interesting point in your CB message. Germans and French people rather not speak english for some reason.
True, lol, Swedish servers randomly write anything in Swedish. There's some exceptions where they'd write in both Swedish and English. But some German and French (more than most others from what I've experienced) just seem too stubborn to write in English. Why?A lot of German servers in various games have server messages in German. Some servers even have the server rules in German.

I never find it a problem providing the squads are talking with other squads by english text or to the commander in english, you can always crate a new squad

i automatically speak english while playing pr anyway
honestly, why not? it might be annoying but better than being in a squad with people that don't speak one proper word of english...
and btw, europe is NOT a nation (yet

On T&T we don't allow locked squads, which helps alot with stopping two or three players (normally clanners tbh) locking themselves away in a squad. Means that everybody can squad up and make freinds
The best thing to do if the server is full of squads that don't speak your lingo is to: Switch, check the other teams squads for space, still no? Leave server and repeat on another. Or lead your own squad of course

Most germans dont do that in my experience. There is the odd lot who hates their english teacher with a fiery passion thoughNyteMyre wrote:In Project Reality, there's some things very vital for a good round. 1. That you are in a squad and 2. re: Should players speak English in Europe servers?
Since i went to a german school, in Denmark, and lived close to Germany, all I can say its a cultural aspect. Same with the french.
Almost everything in the german and french media is either translated or synchronized. I rarely seen a french or german tv movie with german subtitles. Thats in it self does add to the inability to speak english well.
In Denmark, we have in recent years seen a bit more synchronization in children's movies and programs, but for everything else is subtitled
By being exposed to a language, it is way easier to learn than just only having classes in school

re: Should players speak English in Europe servers?
yeah, english is easy and the most common, but speaking your own language is always easier and faster. I actually prefer that people that can't communicate on same language should be in different squad. I can understand why a GER VOIP squad wouldn't like to have one silent squadmember.
Problem is that bf2 engine only has what like 9 squad per team.

You don't necessarily need to speak the same language to TW with som1, just stick together and cover eachother etc. But If som1 can't speak the same language in ur squad then it gets frustrating and annoying. If som1 doesn't speak english in my ENG VOIP squad, I will kick him in favour of a friend. If no friends are around, he can stay as long as he doesnt go lonewolf on me.

Why is this a problem? Why is everyone supposed to know english? Why dont u take it other way,4 germans form a squad to speak german, say 2 of them cant speak/understand english, out of the blue you join the squad and want them to speak english with you?NyteMyre wrote:

Exactly, as in why won't you?
seriously though don't make people communicate in english, if it says "GER VOIP" I think it's safe to say that the communication preferably will be in german.

-I've stopped playing on 10th Community exactly because of this. All German squads, and if I set up a squad people stop by, ask if I speak German, then leave when I tell them I don't. Even if I set up a squad named "ENG VOIP" anyone who pops by starts talking German to me.

re: Should players speak English in Europe servers?
I don't think this is much of a problem, since IMO germans or frenchies are quite open to this.
If you are playing on a german (or a french) server I think you should expect Server messages in that language and players that are from that country.
E.g. Scandinavians or other Europeans usually don't get their TV,Movies etc. dubbed. Therefore they are more often exposed to the English language which is why they have better English skills in general.
I don't think they refuse to speak in English because they are stubborn, but rather because they just aren't able to.
Yes it can be. If the majority of the PR players were talking chinese, wouldn't you open up an "English" or a "Nederlands" squad too? I mean you would also be pissed if there was a player in your squad talking chinese and not understanding your orders... (No offense on Chinese people here, it's just an example)NyteMyre wrote: I know EU is a multi-language nation and that not everyone has English as their native language, but is it really so hard to adapt?
Just leave the server or open up your own squad. Usually some people will join you after a while. If you don't like SLing, just wait for an open slot.NyteMyre wrote: And the moment you enter a German squad, the first thing they ask is: "Bist du Deutsch?". So you expect people to talk in a language they don't understand? Isn't this a bit arrogant?NyteMyre wrote: My request to all German players..I don't have a problem with language squads as long you can fill it with 6 German speakers...but if that's not the case, just let non-germans join and start talking English!

Simply because they often aren't able to speak the language. This is more of an educational problem of the countries.Japub wrote: But some German and French (more than most others from what I've experienced) just seem too stubborn to write in English. Why?

re: Should players speak English in Europe servers?
i stick with only eng squads with british and US as much as i can. I just can't stand poor english (its not racist it just annoys me) in combat situations. So when someone joins my squad who can't speak english ill kick them because i don't need any rambos who can't understand my orders.
