I noticed in one of the screens that a WAH-64 or a AH-64D has two AIM-9M "Sidewinder" missles mounted on it.
I know that the AH-64D has the ability to mount AIM-9M and the later AIM-9X missles as well as the more common AIM-92 "Stinger". However, I believe they are mounted in place of the AGM-114s or Hydra 70s and not on the end of the stub wings.
You guys might want to check if those missles are actually mounted in that location.
Anyways, great job on the Apache Longbow model. It looks great!

Re: Authenticity?

Bad and probably old pic.
But...Boeing / McDonnell Douglas / Hughes AH-64 Apache / Apache Longbow - History, Specs and Pics - World Military Aircraft
The later addition of wingtip mounts allowed the system to field AIM-9 Sidewinder or AIM-92 Stinger air-to-air missiles.

Re: Authenticity?
Iirc, they carry 4 of them, mounted in 2 tubes on each side of the wingtip, although I am not sure if this is only one version specific.
Apparently:

This way.

Apparently:
Which reasures me.In the close support role the helicopter carries 16 Hellfire air-to-surface missiles on four 4-rail launchers and four air-to-air missiles.

Re: Authenticity?
I used to think that helicopters flew around with A2A missiles but having been in debates on the DigitalCombatSimulator forums I've had it beaten into me (by helicopter gurus, the developers and several mil pilots) that helicopters won't mount a2a missilies in reality.
Some helicopters can mount or be modified to mount a2a but they probably never will (except one Ah-1 and a few OH-58 varients, perhapse some other obscure models). (Actually one unknown was the WAH-64, any pilots feel free to chime in with infos
).
All the pictures and videos of other helicopter with them are either one off trials, tests, demonstrations or mock-ups.
The reason is they aren't ever supposed to encounter or engage helicopters and if they did need to their ATGMs will work just as well.
None of which applies to PR so A2A missiles for all!

Me thinks you are thinking of ATAS (stingers)Alex6714 wrote:Iirc, they carry 4 of them, mounted in 2 tubes on each side of the wingtip, although I am not sure if this is only one version specific.
Having read the same thing, I agree.Flanker15 wrote:I used to think that helicopters flew around with A2A missiles but having been in debates on the DigitalCombatSimulator forums I've had it beaten into me (by helicopter gurus, the developers and several mil pilots) that helicopters won't mount a2a missilies in reality.

apparently this one is a prototype/testbed:

The US army has its kiowas for air to air heli fighting.
Also, the apaches only carries chaffs and lets the disco ball handle IR-missiles.
Nothing really matters for PR as we can't lock ATGMs on helis and the disco ball doesn't work.

Re: Authenticity?
Well the source I quoted from said they would carry 4, but yeah stingers I guess.
It could be made to lock onto helis with ATGM.

Re: Authenticity?
They carry 4 stingers in tubes on the wing tips, yes, but only some testbeds can do this.
and Yes ofc, you can make stingers lock on to hand grenades if you want, just that it takes some gameplay rethinking.
