Some people understand more than one language! What about using markers as SL?

You still get lots of mixed SQs and you get people joining GER Squads who dont speak German. then they complain that nobody speaks their language, well if they had their language in front of their name it would be easier to find other (for example) English speaking people in mixed Sqs

Well there is your (there) problem....idiot players. Really, unless you don't understand GER VOIP means German VOIP then you haven't been playing that long.

Does anyone else agree this is non debatable?

I'm from Scandinavia. From time to time I like to join German squads to practice my German.

They can always tell I'm not German - "...aber ich habe ein bisschen deutsch gelernt" - and they have always been cool with that.

I just wanted to encourage people using country tags to make it easier for them to communicate :-(

All servers should be Latin - only universal language :) (eventually Esperanto)

Nahh, Latin might not have had enough time to propagate itself, now Linear A/B, now something like that was made long enough ago so that everyone ought to now it :p

Latin or Greek are not the universal language, they are used in a law/scientific context because it is not quickly changing as other languages do.

English is pretty good as an international language, because it is a mongrel language it has aspects easier to learn by various language. (As the language comes fom Germanic tongues, French, Latin etc etc etc thanks to multiple migrations and invasions)

Also the control of trade by the British empire made English the language of trade, and British imperialism spread the language around the world; as well as being one of the centers of learning int he world leading to people coming to Britain and learning English in the pursuit of their various fields.

If you have English, French and Dutch I imagine you could talk to the vast majority of the world

NyteMyre wrote:In Project Reality, there's some things very vital for a good round. 1. That you are in a squad and 2. Communication. Communication both inside and outside the squad. And there's something that annoys me the most that's most likely only in EU servers: LANGUAGE SQUADS.

I know EU is a multi-language nation and that not everyone has English as their native language, but is it really so hard to adapt?
Most of the time when I join a server I see something like the following squad setup:

ENG VOIP 6/6
Random sqd 6/6
Sniper sqd 2/6 (locked)
GER VOIP 5/6
GER INF 4/6

And the moment you enter a German squad, the first thing they ask is: "Bist du Deutsch?". If you say you aren't German they kick you out of the squad. But that means that you're SQUAD has 1 member less and that your TEAM has 1 unassigned players (which are also a pain in the butt).

My request to all German players..I don't have a problem with language squads as long you can fill it with 6 German speakers...but if that's not the case, just let non-germans join and start talking English!

For another language rant of mine: Click Here

That has to be the most ignorant thing I've heard all day...they join the game and create a squad TELLING you they're German, and you demand they speak English?

You should move to America. That attitude fits right in with the general stereotype.

Besides, you're Dutch. Aren't you people supposed to be liberal supermen?

Did you also read the conditions? I always try to avoid language squads. But if it's the only option, then it sucks if they don't let you in the squad because you can't understand/speak german. You have to create your own solo squad which is the same as being in no squad.

Also, the new topic title isn't really what I mean.

My point is this: Creating your own language squads is fine, but don't kick people out of it if all other squads are locked or full.

This thread reminds me of this :

"How do you call someone that speaks THREE or more languages? A Polyglot
How do you call someone that speaks TWO languages? A Bilingual
How do you call someone that speaks only ONE language? An American"

Also works for British, and in some cases the french.

It's funny how english speaking people just asssume that everyone should be able to speak it. I don't have a problem with it, but clearly some people can't speak english properly (which is not a crime !). I usually play in german, french or english squads and I've never seen a SL kicking someone because he didn't speak the language.

On the other hand, I wouldn't join a PL VOIP squad when I don't speak polish. And I definitely won't complain about it, like the author of this thread is doing. Isn't your attitude slightly selfish ?

The day your german (or french, for that matter) is as good as my english, I'll be willing to accept your complaint. Otherwise, simply don't join Squads that clearly state a language you DON'T speak in their name.

Edit: As a Dutch, you should be able to speak 4 languages :D

I've joined a few Polish and German squads and haven't had a problem. I said I didn't mind if they spoke to themselves in <Language>, but if something important was going on to give me a heads up in English. Didn't see much of a problem with the whole deal and neither did they.

I think I´ve played in PL/FR/RU/ESP/GER/NL "language" squads.

I never had any problem. If I got kicked? Several times. But I did not whined in the forum.

I started up a VOIP-squad or choosed another server.

Please...

Meh, Im german, when im on a german server, in a voip squad, and someone only speaks english, then most of the time we end up speaking a mix of german and english anyways since most german players i know speak english to a degree.
The thing is, sometimes, ill join a french server because all the other servers are either full or empty, and the only open squad will be a french squad. So ill join the french squad. I am not expecting comraderie, small talk, or even long strategy discussions. I am expecting enough english that when i say, infantry three three zero, they can figure out what i mean and fire that direction.
I understand kicking people from a certain language squad if there are lots of others available or enough free players for new squads. But when a player is the only one or one of two not in a squad, i think kicking that player is just stupid.

I don't have a clear opinion on this. It's better for people to be able to communicate in their native language. But on the servers like Lithuanian and Russian Reality, there aren't anything else than Russian, Lithuanian, Polish etc. squads. I don't understand why server exists if you can't play there with English, which is a universal language after all. I play usually on German servers and I can find a squad there. Also I have very, very low ping on German servers. :D
