Driving positions
On APCs how come the driving position is like a computer screen, I always though the driver sat at the front in warriors etc with his head poking out

Re: Driving positions
in ww2 the driver would be in cover, while the person looking out of the hatcho would stand on hte drivers sholders and use his feat to tell whitch way to turn, and i know the military would try and keep there solders as safe as possible

Re: Driving positions
I think Krisfx is right there, the driver looks through some kind of sight and has little windows as well when the hatch is closed right?
iirc there are night sights and suchlike
I was kinda sad when the driving position was moved from under the turret up to the commander position
^ which is why its a computer screen now cuz its not just the driver, is the commander

Yeah, although to further improve team work why not give the commander a specific job within tghe vehicle. Although I wouldnt really know im not a big fan of how tanks work.
I did read somewhere that the commander is the bloke who you normally see with his head poking out the top

Re: Driving positions
fully agree, the problem is that a 4th position would result in fewer tanks on the field during a battle, say 4 tanks, thats 4 guys no longer fighting, that could be a max of another 2 tanks out there fighting.Yeah, although to further improve team work why not give the commander a specific job within tghe vehicle. Though I'm pretty sure the commander wouldn't be sticking his head out in combat.
I remember in the book 'barefoot soldier' by Johnson Beharry VC, his warrior commander had sights to look out of, but he hate them and would use his SA80 tracer fire to direct the 30mm cannon rather than sit inside. So I dunno.

Re: Driving positions
IRL that pok hole is only opened in none combat zones the commander tells the driver where to go they removed the commander b/c no one wants to see a black screen and hearing AHHHHH turn left oh no right AH back up! and not able to see.

Re: Driving positions
Something like that would be quite cool but what about a view as though your looking through the little mirror thing they all seem to have.
I know on the challenger its really stupid driving and having a view on top of the turret.

Re: Driving positions
In older APCs, you could open the hatch and poke your head up, or look through little view panels when buttoned down.
In modern APCs however there is generally a camera.
