Why do some people take the game so serious?

Post by Coolio »

I know PR is realistic, it's incredibly realistic, but the problem is that many people forget that it's just supposed to be fun! I love PR, but many times my gameplay experience is ruined because someone (usually an admin) treats it as if it was life or death. I accidentally drive a supply truck into a ditch. And guess what happens? I get called a moron, and I'm kicked from the server. Honestly, who really cares? I know it was a bad thing to do, but people do stuff accidentally and the truck will respawn in a few minutes. Not to mention I was playing as a team, etc prior to accidentally crashing it.

I love PR, but someones the people are such idiots! It's just a game, not real life! Chill out!

People take the game serious because they enjoy playing the game, Its more of a teambased game, Rather then bf2v, In bf2v you just get abunch of bunny hopping noobs that only care about there stats. But with project Reality its about playing as a team, Even if you didnt mean to drive the truck into a ditch, It can cost the team point, Which could also give your team a benfit like building a firebase.

This probs wont awnser your question the way you wanted it be awnserd, But this is my view point.

Well unlike vBF2 allot of people play PR for the military like game play. Most log on to have a serious game and get annoyed when someones just server crawling (kinda like pub crawling :-P ).

There you are setting up a ambush, all your guys are in place, the explosives set, spotters following a target, your LMG's are set, and then bang! some retard starts shooting at the enemy 200m and you trap is ruined.

These kinda things happen ALLOT and piss allot of people off. Which is why some servers will bleed out players as one or two numb nuts playing grab *** will ruin a server.

So the questions kinda falls back on your question. Why do some people not take the game Project Reality so serious?

What if a pilot in a transport helicopter has a connection error and it crashes killing everyone inside? Can't really help that.

Yes a lot of people take it seriously. I know I do. Not enough to kick you for rolling a truck however. The majority of players know how important each asset is, how much each life is worth so losing any of them is huge. When assets are wasted it makes players crazy, and rightfully so. That being said the "fun" part comes from the people you play with. Making mistakes happen, we were all new at one time. Just brush it off and find a "fun" server to play on and stick with it. There are plenty of good ones out there and I know that most will help you out if you ask. PR is too good to give up on because of one bad experience! Stick with it !

the longtime players of Project reality are in a very real sence, a minority group of gamers who are only interested in playing tactically. they bought BF2, didnt like the retards in it, discovered PR and poured their hearts into it. a lot of money is spent on this mod weekly, and we even have a very popular tournament that runs regularly, that basically pretends to be armys that train weekly.

its like a massive paintball club, you buy your gun, your clothes and your mask, you drive out to whereever your gonna play and you kick *** for a few hours before returning home. only on a computer where you dont have to move your *** anywhere. well thats my opinion, i know i generalised a lot, but you get the jist. :D

edit: for the record, i myself like to play seriously. i dont like when new players ruin the fun by expeimenting with the stuff the gamers are given to rely on to have a productive and fun match. but theres always going to be some players who dont care.

I am a bit of both. I play in the PRT running around pretending to be a virtual army man for 2 weeks, culminating in a battle, and so yes, I take this game seriously and play tactically.

But there is taking the game seriously, and just being a general ******! I mean at the end of the day, if I took this game so seriously, and for example, my Squad Leader is shouting at me, I may aswell go to my local recruiters and sign up(Although I'm sure I could shoot better without that pesky deviation :p ) but my point is, as Coolio said, it's a game, calm yer friggin passions, if you are getting angry at someone screwing up in game, then you need to smoke some **** to stop you being so stressed out man!

Yes I play tactically and seriously, but I have great banter and laughs in the process, and if someone flips a truck(COUGH EDDIEREYES909 COUGH) I laugh it off, at the end of the day, I play this for fun, if it gets to the point I'm getting pissed at something, then I need to take a step back and build a snow penis, cos this game ain't worth me being pissed.

I agree with Scot - you can play seriously and tactically without being an ***hole. It is not the Army, despite many people wishing it to be so. The bottom line is that it should be fun - some people take their "power" way to seriously, and I suspect they are compensating for something in their real life.

most servers kick/ban for soloing armor.....

OP: this is your side of the story, and i respect that.... but you where probably doing something wrong and not knowing it, like what kit did you have ?(sniping by any chance?) why was your driving the truck ? was your definition of working as a team the same as most other peoples (ive seen some lone wolfs thinking they are working as a team, not saying your one of them) why was you kicked ? did you check it might have been room for player, or high ping ect ect ...

Well if you play a game called "Project Reality", you need to assume it. There is thousands of mods on BF2, many other realy great like PoE2, D.Conflict, USi...etc.

There is nothing worst than when somone scrap you're entire work cause he think he play a game called "1337 RAMBO OMGBBQWTFIMSO1337". But, as you had realise, the community take it very personnal when smacktard ruins the game play. I can understand when you're very new to P.R., the game seems realy realy strict and people are hard, but, at the end, when you got the pincipe of TEAMWORK > 1337 OWNING (wich is impossible in PR btw...), TACTIC > Accumulate respawn time of 40 mins, Coordination & training > Take a *insert any REALY important asset here[A10/AH64...]* crash it be hated by all youre team member and risk the kick/ban.

P.R. is a serious game for serious player, folow you're officer, keep you're head down, and shoot in the same direction as every one.

A bunch of the frustration I've seen on various servers, and myself am guilty of at times, comes from the MASS of new players who don't know the rules or how to really play. They simply download, install, load up, join a server and play vBF2 style (Jumping in to a chopper and W key spamming till they flip). I tried helping these players out when they screw up, but there's just so damn many of them this newest release thanks to the EA Pop up Ad... I've basically had enough of being team killed for no reason, assets being stolen, chat/voip spammed as of late, and I'm hoping for it to cool off within the next two weeks or so. BUT, I take the game very seriously a lot of times and thats how the game is meant to be played. Yes it's a game and all, but there's a reason why we're playing THIS game rather than vBF2. You're playing Project Reality, and thus it's attempting to simulate reality. If I were a Marine invading Muttrah City I'd take it really damn serious. If you play PR, you need to take the game seriously a LOT of the time, but yes there are times you can casually play but remember you're playing Project -REALITY-, even though it is a game.

Sorry I didn't click save when I was editing, had this page open like two hours now HA.

If you get kick/banned just don't go back to the server, its that easy. If they want to run a hardass server then its there choice. Some PR'ers like a quick pick up game and others like a 4 hours journey. I've played both but I also know which servers encourage and enforce both teamwork and milsim and which ones dont.

And remember your idea of fun "pick up games" can be not fun for others. In fact can outright ruin it for them. So pick your servers wisely and get to know the players there. PR goals are to make a team milsim game and discourage rambos. If your here just to play around and have (your type) fun there are many server that cater to your type of play. But if you log into "Teamwork and Milsim" server and the rules keep rolling about we discourage non-milsim players maybe its a good idea to find another server.

I just don´t understand why people are so hostile about every little comment, accident etc made. And its not just the vanilla players/forums smacktards I am talking about here.

I once took the opportunity to join a game on a few popular and known servers without any clan or such tags and for the most part was ignored and treated completely differently....

Now that, I can't understand either. If that's what led the OP to make this thread, then I can completely understand. I don't often yell or get into any arguments in-game, and I never flame anyone. I've of course yelled over VoiP on the odd occasion when I haven't been having a good day, and pr can be stressful when dealing with the more valuable assets, especially.

Though simply getting annoyed with someone for doing something stupid isn't that intolerable, though people need to learn to use tact. If you just start swearing at someone to RTFM or to go back to vanilla simply because they don't understand a concept, being new to pr, your just a prick.

Simple as that, don't flame people for any misunderstandings/confusions, and don't forget that there's always a huge influx of new players each release, which we should accept with open arms.

I like to have a laugh in game got no problem with acting a spoon at all BUT DO YOUR JOB FIRST!

If I go into a flag with a squad (who have been briefed on my style of play) I expect to be able to say "bravo east, Alpha move in west" and see my two fireteams split off immediately to where they need to be... Once in the flag I expect to hear a barrage of different compass directions so I know who is covering what angle and where I need more people.

I also expect to hear jokes like
"Argh wheres the medic?!?!, oh yes hes there!"
"you know I care for you baby..."

"Oh ballocks the trucks rolling"
"Quick! Call in the RAC!"

And so on...

As my Sig says, I like realistic squadleading, so when its all quiet, we sit tight and defend even if there's nothing happen, we have a laugh and a joke (I wish we could play cards as a mini game lol) when it all starts hitting the fan I want people communicating and responding accordingly I want to see people panic and get into position to meet the threat, I play to win but mostly play to see proper tactical organisation going on as that's what gives me my kicks
