I agree that sometimes it can get a bit over the top, but I'd rather be in a serious squad than not. The time investment you have to put into this game isn't worth it if some goofball is screwing things up for the whole squad/team. There's a time and place for screwing around and generally the entire squad decides when that is. Getting kicked for making a mistake is a bit much, but as previously said - simple solution is find a new server or find a new squad that works with your play style.

And as usual, there's usually more to the story than "all I did was this and I got kicked".

Some people want to run this game like a mil sim and scream at squad mates when they make a simple mistake....those are the people that push new players away from PR and turn this game into a fucking chore. I enjoy the squads were people are laughing at dumb/random shit and not take stuff so seriously. I enjoy the shit talking over VOIP and the drama in chat when someone runs over a friendly mine and then punishes (even though it was clearly marked). Ultimately I play PR to kill stuff and have a good laugh, not live out some Full Metal Jacket drill instructor fantasy.

I do enjoy the super serious squad on occasion, but it usually saps the fun away for me.
I feel you man.

What people don't get is that serious != realism

You wanna know whats realistic? Pointing laser designators at chinooks leaving Kandahar airbase so that they break into wild maneuvers popping dozens of flares? Or using the same laser deisgnators to knock pigeons unconscious so they release their bowels outside the officers mess? That sound like PR to you?

What happens in PR?

"CAS IF YOU DO NOT MOVE TO THE MOVE MARKER NOW I WILL KICK YOU FROM THE SQUAD!"

"... Ok but you don't have to threaten me."

*you have been kicked from your squad.

10 seconds later previous squads apcs TKs me.

... That is beyond sad how such a tiny amount of power can go to to someones head to such a degree.

Right ok. See, this is a game.

It's not real.

And the more serious people take it, the less serious I can. That's because people who understand its a game are more attached to reality than people who treat it like the military. It is not possible for PR to be realistic enough for people to act the way they do most of the time. I mean with all the concessions made to make the game easier (revivable headshots, forward spawning etc) I thought most people would pick up on that.

I dont agree with you getting kicked, but I could understand people getting upset about asset loss, but they should be more mad at the situation, an not you. Shit happens, right?

When I play PR, I normally put on my game face. My serious face. Its realistic and thats what a lot of people who play PR consider fun. You might think they are super serious and not enjoying themselves, but they are. A lot.

But yeah, kicking you was over the top, but you gotta understand when you say "PR is a a game and games are about having fun" that for many people who play PR, the very thought of a hard, tough, super serious, 3 hour struggle of minds, losing battles, winning battles, and sometimes just barely breaking even is considered a TON of fun ;)

In the end, yeah, it is just a game, but its a game many take really seriously. I guess Im just saying there are both sides to see. Those who just wanna have fun and enjoy some great gameplay[which i perfectly fine and awesome, I do it all the time] but there are also those who are looking for something extreme and as true to life as possible :P

Basically, just dont let 'em get to you and try to respect both sides play styles :P

Though looking back at your post I think your situation was the case of someone whos just a ****, and has an attitude problem, so my post doesnt really apply ;)

If not take it seriously, then why even play it ? The real fun in PR starts as soon as you play it seriously, IMHO. When I join a server and see that people on it behave like in a sunday morning bf2 strike at karkand session I immidiately disconnect, because that's not what this mod is supposed to be about. Some people might react a bit harsh to even small mistakes, for me that's still better than to give newcomers the false impression that it is basically bf2 vanilla with some nice new gimmicks and that a "I-dont care-about-everything-rambo-style" attitude is tolerated.

In every new version, there's a bunch of fresh bf2 cowboys coming to "test out" the mod. They either leave the mod for good because they notice that it is taken very seriously by the community or they become a serious, team-oriented player themselves.

Accidents happen, but sometimes people get lost in the heat of the battle and they can't tell the difference between an accident and a careless idiot, and get carried away.

But people can be unnecessarily rude, and that is uncalled for and childish, and should be far more likely to get you kicked from a server than putting a truck in a ditch.
I doubt there is a player on these forums that has not done that b4 ;)

While the admin exaggerated imo, people who want coordination and teamwork are usually attracted to this game, that means bringing a certain degree of skill to the game and taking it somewhat more serious than you would UNREAL for example.
I must say though I have never been kicked for flipping a truck...or an apc >.<

Depends on what you view as seriously...

There is playing stupidly, like vanilla karkand as you say, there is playing seriously and there is playing seriously.

Of course I play seriously in a team when I can etc, but Im not forcing complete comms systems, precisely plotting the position of each squadmate as we advance up a street, having a right go at the guy who lost the chopper after takeoff in a simple little accident, which happens to everyone...

spacemanc wrote:I agree with Scot - you can play seriously and tactically without being an ***hole. It is not the Army, despite many people wishing it to be so. The bottom line is that it should be fun - some people take their "power" way to seriously, and I suspect they are compensating for something in their real life.
AMEN to Spacemanc and I double his agreement with Scot. Being serious and being an A**hole are two different things. Anyone who has worked on projects for extremely successful, extremely powerful people know that these people get where they are because of their ability to communicate effectively and to effectively manage people. On a number of occasions I have worked on projects with big-wig Vice Presidents and top level managers. These people were never too busy or too important to answer my questions or respond to my emails in a polite, efficient manner. Of course they demanded a lot but they had patience and were willing to work with me to solve problems. No one is ever too hardcore, or too important to be polite. Hardcore is great. Being rude is not.

In my view the game is only fun because people take it seriously, In all truth if there weren't squads where people use VOIP and be serious in a tactical sense then I'd be off playing FH2. The community of people on servers that are willing to take it seriously are what attracts people to the mod imo. Having said that having a laugh is fun too

well, i think why admins, (such as myself) want to "cleans out" all the smacktards etc. because there have been alot of "sabatours" in pr that want to ruin it etc. and what we just want to do is to show that they wont be able to ruin it so they just ban here and there, and sometimes they maybe get the wrong people :/

Well about driving a truck in a ditch part, shit happens... My squad's APC got stucked in a ditch too (Fallujah West), another squad was so friendly to help out by giving our APC a lil push (thx  ). But I hate it when a SL of a FULL squad doesnt get an officers kit on purpose, or when SM ar just fooling around and are all scattered across the map!

Dv83r wrote:Nice picture Cassius. I've played PR since 0.6 and I thought it was a better improvement over Vanilla BF2. Some people may think this game is all serious and I agree with you. But sometimes you need to ease up and enjoy what you are doing and not make it so serious to were you will team kill someone. I like to crack jokes with other players in my squad as were going down the road in a truck, but when you get to the battle that's were you need to pull your act together and work as a team to get to your objective. I will get mad at those players who don't take it seriously when you need it the most. If your are looking at a mode to screw around in I suggest you go to the Training mode. I go there all the time and goof off and play around, but when I come back to the battle I get serious. Pr was made for having fun but still have the degree of seriousness like you were in the military in real life. Last, if a player makes a mistake don't overreact, but try to help that player correct his failure and encourage him to work harder.
Yah I was more referring to the way you play rather than attitude. Teamplay is so important for evryone to have fun, well you dont have to give your best, but be somewhat sharp. Its just frustrating if people on important assets like HAT or apc are like Eh ? Whut ? if you call for their assistance.
