I have the same, since upgrading from a ATI x800 to a Nvidia260

All Nvidia drivers do the same for me... funny thing is the smaller my wound/damage the worst the effect.

When i get revived, i have no death effect, but when i twist my ankle i cant see shit :p

( i know that the effects are governed by fps to some extent - my fps has gone from 30 to 130)

Driver version 7.15.11.8048 (nvidia) - (was happening with 3 previous drivers too)

However this was happening b4 0.85, it happened as soon as i put my new card in

Ive noticed that I get the "wounding effects" on most maps that I was playing on. However the maps that I didn't get the "wounding effects" were:

Korengal 64,
Assault on Mestia 64,
Asad Khal 64

(Haven't checked all the maps yet).

Also missing the wounded shaders since 0.85 (they worked in 0.8 )

I did a windows and BF2 reinstall since the last confirmed time they worked.

A possible theory to check is that the wounded shaders might be broken in 0.85 but some people who might still get them have the old 0.8 shader files still active. Just a thought.

Config:

Windows XP SP3
2 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8800GTS 512
Driver version: 178.24

UPDATE:

I just tried it out on my old windows install with PR 0.809. The result was that there also was no shader for below 10%. I suspect they were not working in 0.809 and I just didn't notice due to less time spent playing that version. Maybe check out if 0.75 has them working.

I sometimes get them, sometimes don't, I recently re-formatted, my rig:

Sometimes it happens to me, also sometimes I can sprint when just revived.

I think it's a 0.85 problem, it usually happens to me on every game at least once that I get revived without the wounded effect, but the red bleeding screen and suppression effects are OK.

I just did some further testing and found out that enabling/disabling anti-aliasing was the factor that enabled/disabled the near-death shader effect. Whenever I enabled anti-aliasing the shader would not work.

Another interesting discovery along the way is that this also is present in BF2:SF with the tear gas (which effect we use for the shader). So it's not just a PR problem. In fact it's a more generic problem.

I have yet to find out if it is related to Nvidia drivers or the shaders file or a combination thereof.

Anyone who wants to help:

I need your graphics card type, driver version and info on how turning anti-aliasing on and off in PR affects the issue. (Since BF2 needs to restart after changing AA and also is not very reliable to change that setting when you want to it would be best to check your AA status before or after joining a game and not before restarting BF2)

After some more testing I found the cause of the problem:

The missing near-death effect is caused by the new Nvidia GeForce drivers. The last known driver without this bug is: 177.92

The bug only shows in conjunction with Anti-Aliasing turned on. If it is turned off the shader will work with newer drivers, too.

Recommendation:

If you are affected by the bug try downgrading your drivers to version 177.92. If you can't use those drivers for any reason you can also disable anti-aliasing if you want the near-death shader back.

Eh, I don't get the effect if I've just been revived, but I will get the effect if I've been shot/hurt and am near death.

When you get this "shock" screen you cannot run.

However, I've noticed that even when I've just been revived and am supposed to be seeing this screen but are not, I can run.

I used to never get it with my Nvidia card.

EVGA 8800GT 512MB
Driver: 181.22 <-- I distinctly remember these drivers because they were released about the same time as 0.85

I've since put in my ATI/AMD card and noticed that today I didn't get the effect when I was revived. :?

That is a different problem. Need to check into it to find out why it happens. This one is related to PR and probably not caused by external sources.

Thanks spearhead, you solved my problem with the shader near death effect.

I thought the 2gb switch solved my problem, but when I put in my new drivers I set it to "performance" which disabled AA on my nvidia settings as a whole - which really is what got my death shader back.

Nice find, and the being revived without death effects, yeah totally different bug :P

Dont feel like reading whole thread, but sou have somewhat noticed it. I had same thing that the "crazy vision" was missing. I came back after I took off all the settings in the Nvidia drivers.

my ATI 4870 pretty much sucessfully gives these effects most of the time. Sometimes not, if anti aliasing is on.

It is to simulate being resuscitated not bandaged so you are still bleeding.
