What will eventually replace the Little Bird?
So, since the little bird is used only by SFOD-D, what will eventually replace the LB, in all rolls? AFAIK, the US Army uses the UH-60, which used to be on now-Army maps like Qwai, before they were replaced by more little birds.
A larger chopper will be kinda harder to use, limiting the spaces you can make a drop at on some of the tighter maps. Not a bad thing, but it is a thing.
So yeah, is the UH-60 making a come back once it's properly modeled, or is there something else they use?
I know the Kiowa is used as a recon and direct fire support chopper, but they're not produced since 1989 if I'm not mistaken. They *were* deployed over in Iraq and Afghanistan. I figure that will replace the Little Bird support once it's modeled and stuff, but I might be wrong.

Perhaps they would use LBs in jungle warfare still?
I think the main obstacle to putting UH-60s in in larger numbers is the miniguns. as soon as m240s are put on it will be awesome.

So the premises is that SFOD-D would never show up in the battle of Qwai? Army never mixes forces for a major battle?

That little chopper above is actually very cute.
But it wont be so cute when we strap some guns to it....

For the USMC, just replace every two LBs with one huey and call it done.

awww... i dnt think the marines use any more choppers than Huey, Sea sparrow or the seahawk(blackhawk whit navy sing =P)so i think they should just get rid of the littlebird, replace whit huey as a new light chopper, and add in the seahawk or sea sparrow as heawy transport choppers

Bzzt! 160th SOAR, not SFOD-D, who may or may not have had at one time their own aviation platoon / assets.Expendable Grunt wrote:So, since the little bird is used only by SFOD-D
UH-72 Lakota is for CONUS use only. The replacement for the Kiowa, the ARH-70 Arapaho, has been canceled, so the Kiowa will likely be staying in the fleet until they all fall apart.

Proabably a reason for that they work!
yes the SOCOM community air support for the really special groups like Delta Force use the 160th SOAR, they're the guys who you saw shot down in BHD, so basically Ramiel if it is a Mogadishu type map, should have all Spec Op kits for the US
BTW what is CONUS?
Wait scratch taht

Blasphemy! They cannot remove the LB from PR, ever. Some of my fondest memories from earlier releases are of the littlebird. In fact, I would go so far as to say the littlebird is PR.

Re: What will eventually replace the Little Bird?
Currently i'm sure they understand everyones concern about the Littlebird, as eddie backer has said; its only used by the 160th SOAR. The 160th SOAR is a air squadron used only during SF missions, its not used to transport for example soldiers from the 101st Air Assualt, 82nd or other major combat divisions.
The 160th SOAR is the only air unit currently under SOCOM and it is in the ranks with SFOD-D, SEAL's, Rangers and there Marine SF unit(Forget name)

Re: What will eventually replace the Little Bird?
IRL every reconnaissance/spotter work is going to be replaced by UAV's.
You wont have Little Birds, Koiwas, working in the field since they cost too much and require too much maintenance, and at the exponential rate of growth in the Robotics/AI sector within 10 years maybe even less UAV's are going to be the top dog of the battle field.
Maybe PR should create a player controlled UAV with the player in the command box?

CH-53 Sea Stallion
Huey
Osprey (there was a model for this in training at one point, but i guess it was buggy as hell)
Cobra
CH-46 (though I think is already or very close to being completely gone)
I see many times where the LB is used more like the humvees were when they were present on every map. A type of very fast insertion vehicle that pilots do crazy stuff with because they can, not because it is necessary. Yes pilot, it is nice you can land us on the top of the hotel.. but we wanted to go to docks....

Re: What will eventually replace the Little Bird?
I'm kinda bugged with the Seahawk. Having checked in the vehicles you can spawn on maps while in the editor, there was only the Blackhawk and not the older Seahawk. Is this result of adding childrens+reskin to the older Seahawk in order to make them realistic with the Army? But it doesn't seem to be a copy, it's the same file as the older one from vBF2?
I think the Seahawk having a small comeback would be interesting ... But I definitely agree that the LB is not in its place anymore. Sure it's a good chopper but it's unrealistic (PR = realistic assets).
As for the V-22, yeah, but wich map will it be used on? Needs big landing areas and to be used on large maps to be truly effective. (4km maps IMO)

Why do you wanna get rid of the little birds? So what if noboby uses them IRL. Sure it tips over really easy and is back heavy.. But it's a classic. Just make light transport helos for other armies..

Re: What will eventually replace the Little Bird?
I must say, there comes a time where gameplay must trump realism. Sure the LB isn't entirely realistic, but it's good for gameplay. The mod focuses too much on big heavy transport helos, and considering the limited players in a server, and the fact that only 8 people can ride in a helo, putting in a helo that can carry 30 people is a bit excessive. We need more small transport helos, that transport one single squad. That's why I love the LB, small, quick and agile, and has 6 seats so it's perfect for a squad to use. We need more helis like that, even if they aren't entirely realistic.
