IEDs vs Armored Vehicles
Well, since .85 came out i've been playing alot of sapper, and i had some questions, and yes, i did read the manual, most of it at least.
Anyways, whenever i use an artillery IED, i have enemy armored vehicles driving right over them and I detonate them. Now with the tank,i understand that it can survive this. But on Basrah, the APCs and the Scimitar just drove away afterwards?
Im not quite sure how to go about this now, i don't know how much punishment an APC can take in RL, but should it at least be disabled by an ied right between its wheels?

Re: IEDs vs Armored Vehicles
I just noticed that with normal IEDs cannot take out an APC (if you just use one of them...i always plant 8 of them
)
Tbh i never made it to a point where I can plant my Artillery-IED cuz whenever I pickup the kit it seems that I have a huge SHOOT ME sign over my head and i die mostly when I left main...so i couldnt test it yet but I think ill make a LAN-Server to try that out...If its the case that an artillery-IED cannot even disable an APC we should really do something for it

Placed an IED on a smoking single manned APC on Basrah yesterday, I typed out allah akbar for maximum effect, but he didn't take damage. Epic fail and dissapointment.

I think disablement is random iirc, and so is the type of disablement (engine, turret, chopper rotor)

Re: IEDs vs Armored Vehicles
Detonated artillery IEDs multiple times directly under Bradleys and APCs. None of them ever destroyed their target. At best, I got a Bradley lightly smoking. Artillery IEDs are grossly underpowered. There is no way a bradley or APC would survive one of those going off right underneath them in real life unless the payload was a dud. At the very luckiest, it would flip the vehicle if it didn't manage to totally obliterate it. I avoid the artillery IED now. Waste of a kit.

Re: IEDs vs Armored Vehicles
In June of 2006 my vehicle was egressing from an Obj we had just hit, when it hit several 155 rounds. I suffered some minor shrapnel in my right arm, a herniated disk, hernia in my chest, and a concussion. The vehicle was completely destroyed, but everyone dismounted to F* the guys up who did it(except me :/)
Having said that, IED's are underpowered, but I doubt the mechanics in the game allow for you to walk away from a destroyed vehicle.
Also, when your hit, you dont scream like a B*%&, least I didn't, and neither has anyone else Ive seen get shot, blown up, etc.

There's something messed up with the artillery shell IED damage. Coding wise, it should do more damage, but it's not working in 0.85 for some reason. This will be looked into for a future release.The_Blitzcraig wrote:does the artillery IED do less damage then the regular IED?
First of all, thanks for sharing your experience with us. Really glad to know you made itMorphene wrote:Having said that, IED's are underpowered, but I doubt the mechanics in the game allow for you to walk away from a destroyed vehicle.
Having the majority of the passengers in a Jeep or APC survive an attack is a gameplay mechanic we love. Unfortunately, it's very difficult to have our vehicle damage system work correctly for any vehicles that aren't on tracks.
Many people have probably noticed that the damage Heavy-AT does to APC's set's them alight, giving the crew/passengers time to bail before it explodes. Not only does this make things more dramatic, but it gives the crew/passengers a chance to survive and fight on.

There are videos on IEDs. One video has a LAV getting blown up and sent flying. I guess with the unlimited drops we can place with IEDs, this is supposed to represent our ability to plant larger explosives into the ground?

Having modded years ago(for BF1942 as a matter of fact) I understand that you guys are limited. There are a lot of realistic aspects about this mod that I thoroughly enjoy, but not everything can match the experience of combat.'[R-DEV wrote:Jaymz;933684']There's something messed up with the artillery shell IED damage. It is unique in and of itself, prior to deploying(been on 5 rotations now, 3 Iraq, 2 AF), I played a lot of games, but nothing can compare to the things you see over there. There is another thread discussing how head shots should be one shot kills. For the most part I agree, but hearing people talk about how it took 5-6 5.56 rounds to put someone down, from my experience that is not far fetched, that is why proper rounds placement should be practiced, certain points of the body are 1-3 shot kills with 5.56. (however, multiple shots with a sniper rifle is pushing it a little)
I have had a good friend get shot as he entered the breach, 7.62 to the face, the round blew half his head off, but he walks today. His motor skills are a little off, but he is rapidly recovering.
Having said that, nothing can be tweaked enough to represent real combat, what your perspective of combat is, and what combat really is, are two different things, the devs here, however, are on the right track!

the arty IED gos into the ground maybe thats messing up the LOS of the apc so its only yaking a very small LOS of dmg

Most likely, the terrain is physically blocking the damage from being projected upwards. Like I said, coding wise it should do more damage than the regular IED's....R.J.Travis wrote:the arty IED gos into the ground maybe thats messing up the LOS of the apc so its only yaking a very small LOS of dmg
