Commander Ideas

Post by Pantera »

I havent played 0.85, havent played 0.8, havent played it since 0.5, so what i am going to suggest might be already done. But this suggestion is more based on the fact that ive been reading how commanders are useless and completely SUCK.

I was thinking.
  1. Rename the Commander to "Senior Officer" or "Squad Support"
  2. Give him an M16 as default with grenades and a medipack
  3. Give him the ability to request SL kit
  4. Give him a logists truck with only 1 passanger seat
1 - That way the commander wouldnt need to "command" the battle field. Just support other squads with mortar strikes and such. Therefore it will be up to individual squads

4 - IMO there should only be 2 logistic trucks avail. One for a dedicated Logistics squad and another for the "Senior Officer" with only 1 seat. This way it would be hes most important job to re arm and resupply the squads. Therefore making the "Senior Officer" role not so gay? And giving him something to do the whole time.

I think the ability to call in JDAMS should be given to SL with 2 per strike. which will only be avaible again after 45mins.

Mortar strikes can still be reserved for the "Senior Officer" so it doesnt get too boring.

Or you could just give him a little desk with a camera screen and he can fly the UAV manually and is up to him to tell the squads where the enemy is and stuff like that.

Oh, and why not code that if you dont have a commander your tickets bleed more than usual? that should incourage people to "command".

But i think you should just make it its job to re supply and re arm or recon via air.

lol, you're pretty uninformed then. I don't see the point in making suggestions about gameplay when you have no idea how the gameplay is now.

tbh, a "re supply officer" is exactly what this version of PR needs.

Som1 who can run around the battle, using the commander screen when things are quiet to help squads and give ammo/repairs. The commander doing it is better than a log squad since the more ppl to the front the better.

But please...play the game b4 suggesting stuff e.g.
2. Give him an M16 as default with grenades and a medipack 1, why?, 2 he has officer kit
3. Give him the ability to request SL kit yeah...about that
Its kinda like me going over to the ETW forums and suggesting Wellington be put in to the game.

I disagree here.

In my opinion, the game with a commander capable of commanding and controlling a team and maybe even the enemy too, is bringing the game to the level where it has always meant to be.

What we as community need instead of supporting the opportunistic culture still very much alive in the community today (the SL approach), is to "educate" key-players - like the first 20-30 or so, to go command. After 2-5 months of "CO education" the public games will be as they have never been before...commanded and controlled.
2. Give him an M16 as default with grenades and a medipack
I partly agree. Giving the CO more firepower or COM power like a laptop, in the kit, would make the function more flexible than it is today.
3. Give him the ability to request SL kit
Please don't. It will only support the damaging opportunistic culture in the PR community. The very culture that for so long time now has downed the CO culture from evolving. The development and support of the CO function is in my opinion above anything else in the game today. Above graphic, map balance and so on...

I partly agree in the suggestion of making a related vehicle available for both a dedicated Logistic squad and a dedicated officer as well, but only in a larger frame where both options can be picked if wanted before or in a round.

The reason players don't have anything to do the whole time as CO is lack of knowledge about the function. It is without any doubt the most demanding game function of them all. Again, education is the key-word here.
Define irony. A bunch of guys playing PR year after year. A game teaching initiative as the prime mover.
However, in regard to EA, these guys never took the initiative.

For people who haven't seen the clip on youtube yet look up PR v0.85 Karbala commander.

Don't know who is playing the commander but I think that's the way it should be done. Skilled commander with patience and a team following orders ;D

actually i would if i could. it sounds fun :p

secondly i made a huuuuge typo there. i meant to say upgrade what is avaible to the commander. i think as a re supply officer, he should truly get more no?

i mean, the firepower should be increased since i dont think there will be decicated squads the protect the guy :D
