[Proposal] Colombian National Army (Ejército Nacional de Colombia)

Impressive, i didn't know they were so well equiped!!! Would be really interesting and all the weapons already exist?!

Actually, they're not that well equipped. Colombia's military expenditures are roughly about 3-4 millions (USD). Their main mission is to fight against local militias, FARC and drug cartels. And they have the right equipment for this kind of warfare :


First, let's take a look at their air assets :

AH-60L Arpía III
Basically, an upgraded UH-60L, a fearsome gunship : two rocket pods and two 12.7mm minigun under pylons, and some pintle-mounted M60/big minigun (GAU), and nose-radar thing.


They bought 50+ of them.


MD-500
Littlebird cousin :

Less than a dozen in service but it could be a interesting choice.


Super Tucano This is what would make this faction unique. A 20mm gun below fuselage, dumb bombs, MGs and rockets.

You ain't dreaming. Colombia Air Force use 25 old-school planes (but with modern electronics) like this one.

Transport chopper : either UH-60L, UH-1 Huey or Mi-17. Jet aircrafts aren't needed I think.



About firearmes and land vehicles :


Local manufactured Galil as conventionnal rifle. Maybe a bunch of Tavor and M4/M16 added in the mix, like Tannhauser said. Galil chambered in 7.62 NATO are also available => there
Their main hand grenade is the M26 (M67 old sister) => there

I really don't know which LMG is issued. M60 seems to be very common :


Galil Sniper or a designated marskman version of the AR-15 or M14 will do the trick for the Marksman Kit. No colombian bolt-action sniper rifles sighted so far...

As anti-tank weapon : RPG-22 ?. No idea about the Heavy AT.


BTR-80 is locally produced with a M2 MG instead of the original russian 14.5 KPVT, 30mm gun coming soon.

American M-35 as Supply/Logistics Truck of course.

Too bad we can't replicate that sort of actions in PR. Or at least I don't think it'll be easy.

Let's say make a bigass jungle map with many hills. A plane full of drugs must take off from Base A and land in base B on the other side of the map. The Colombian Army team has Base C with a pair of Super Tucanos and must find the aircraft and shoot it down. If Drug Cartel/Guerrilla manage to pull some succeful flights within a certain time-frame... then they win.

Would be fun but I'm not sure about the practicity of such game mode in a PR.

If anybody can find sources and visual evidence of FARC's equipment...? Speculation won't help.

As for the scout chopper, the one proposed above seems 10x better than the Kaman K-MAX .. Man the K-MAX is the uggliest chopper I ever seen.

Below is what I understood after a quick research across wiki and some periodics... There's a high chance I may be mistaken so forgive me please.

(ENC) CNA's enemies are :

FARC : Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia - Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC-EP stands for Ejercito del pueblo ; People's Army)
ELN : Ejército de Liberación Nacional - National Liberation Army (Affiliating itself with FARCs, they both share communistic revolutionary iteologies)
Black Eagles : Águilas Negras - The Black Eagles represents counter-revolutionnary and (so called) counter-insurgency paramilitary groups that stayed active after the larger groupds like the AUC officially demobilized in 2006. Those «unnamed» paramilitary groups are suspected to be involved with narcotrafficants and to receive most of their fundings from them. (Older paramilitary groups also received funding from narcotrafficants)
Those groups participate in narcotrafficant activities more closely than FARC/ELN forces do, altho FARC/ELN does offer protection to cartels by taxating them money.

Game mode 1 - Narcotrafficants *insurgency*
To represent fighting against Black Eagle groups protecting narcotrafficant «drug stashes» the game mode would be Insurgency, with «weapons caches» remodeled into «drug & weapons stashes» that would have to be destroyed by CNA in order for it to win. However Black Eagle groups should be more like Talibans ; Few vehicles and able to make rally points.

Game mode 2 - AASv3
To represent fighting between FARCs/ELN and CNA, it should be AASv3 with FARCs having the ability to make RPs and Firebases/bunkers.

The Guerrillas' Weapons

SAM 7 Missile

Designed in the Soviet Union in the late seventies. Its total weight is nine kilograms and its speed is 400 meters per second. It has a range of six kilometers and is used to shoot down helicopters. The cost per unit is $15,000.

SAM 14 Missile

Developed in 1974. It has a range of eight kilometers and a speed of 490 kilometers per hour. Cost per unit is $18,000.

SAM 16 Missile

Developed in Russia in 1988. It has a range of 12 km, weighs 12.5 kg and is 1.55 m long. Its speed is 570 meters per second. It follows its target, guided by heat from the engines. It brings down A-37 fighter planes and Blackhawk helicopters. Each missile costs $18,000.

RPG 7

Known as a Russian-made mini missile. It weighs 6.9 kg and has a speed of 120 meters per second. It is used to attack mobile targets-tanks from 300 m away and fixed objects-bases from 500 m away. In Somalia these were used to shoot down Blackhawks. The cost of each missile varies between $600-$700. 81 and 61mm Mortars [subhead] Produced in the United States, these weigh 10 kg and launch mortar shells an average distance of 250 m. Their radius of action is 50 m around. Their average cost is $3,000.

Grenade Launchers

This is from the latest generation of US-made grenade launchers. They can fire ten 40mm grenades in 30 seconds. Their average range is 100 m and their radius of action is 20 m around. Cost $8,000.

AKM Rifle

This is the Korean version of the AK-47. Each unit is acquired on the black market for $400. Between 4,000 and 6,000 units have been sold to the FARC.

As expected, mostly russian weapons. Maybe Venezuela gave them some FAL rifles (and AK-103 more recently), and they surely have some stolen Galil and M16 as well.

Sure, but as stated before, Colombia plans to use mainly BTR-80s (for Marines first, Army later), so a reskinned BTR-60 (and weapon recoded) would be a decent placeholder, wouldn't it ?

Since they are doing the Brazilian army, they are making:
FAL series, Imbel made weapons, Urutu(Apc) and some amazon themed objetcts.

Farc uses a lot of Ak's so their gear is not priority for them.

Well, I'm sure the BTR60/80 is a good placeholder, only needs a reskin. However I feel that giving them EE-11 and EE-9 and maybe a few M113 would make them more special, have a more unique feeling.

As for de 3 factions it's rather 2 factions ; FARCs is bigger and better known than ELN and ELN pretty much follows the same ideas and military doctrine than FARC. So IMO I would make only the FARCs, as ELN are affiliating (they posted a letter asking for affiliation) with FARCs. So in the end it's FARC (AASv3) and Black Eagles (Guerrilla *insurgency*).

Yes, Venezuela would make a wonderful Opfor faction. I don't agree about them having given stuff to FARCs as I see no source proving that, however making a Venezuelan faction for PR would add to the South-American dimension of PR. The nice part is that all that's needed for Venezuela really, is a bunch of reskins and very few new models wich makes it easy. All we'd need is voices wich I think we already have in BF2 by default (so they could sell BF2 to hispanics/latinos). However it'd be ace if we could have a less formal spanish used for the FARC and Aguilas Negras to make them feel different and avoid confusion.

Do you know if the guy modeling the FAL is willing to give it to other factions? I'm sure the DRC (Brummy) needs one and if Venezuela ever joins PR, they could use some too. ^^
Urutu = Win, maybe once the Brazilian Army is finished they could contribute? It'd be very nice of them. I'm actually very happy of seeing another south-american faction is currently in the making, being from perù myself I've been longing to see south-america in PR.

I was bored sometimes ago and I made a quick Venezuela Army design plan. I find every needed info apart from the supply truck and sniper rifle.
Mostly reskin job, some placeholders. Hard tasks would be their jeep/AA jeep (Tiuna) and the FAL (add variety). And maps of course !

There are many many accents spoken in latin america, so no necessarly swearing, but slang would do. FARCs and Aguilas Negras are not too professional militias, it'd be a good thing to make them feel like so, but my main argument is to give them new voices in order to avoid confusion between CNA and AN/FARCs.
Current example would be chechnyans and russians, they both speak russian but they use different words and one sounds more professional than the other.
