Giving up on PR - PB wins

Post by spybaz »

Alas, I am giving up on PR until the PB issue is resolved. I have been playing every day, for 2-4hrs for the last 6 months or so but the PB kicks are getting more and more frequent no matter what I do. I can resolve PB issues occasionally and randomly using ALL the tips provided in the PB Troubleshooting thread in this forum.

Unfortunately when the biggest enemy in the game is 'PB kicks' (for various reasons - I think I have encountered every type of PB kick there is) I give up. PB wins hands down. My frustration level is beyond 'fun' which is what a video game should be.

I am mature and very computer savvy so this is not a whimsical post. The reason for the post is to ask the devs to please, please, please work with Punkbuster to resolve these issues.

I really want to play this game! I love it but alas I am moving on now until PB is fixed.

Please make a sticky when this issue is completely resolved (please!) as I will check in on the forums regualarly to see if it has been fixed.

Thanks for a fantastic game - the best FPS in town. Pity it has been destroyed by incompetent and impractical 'online countermeasures'.

Any PB-free servers out there in the Pacific NW? Or is PB a necessary evil when playing PR?

Thanks and farewell until brighter PB-issue-free days.

Spy.

DARN YOU PUNKBUSTER! YOU'VE LOST US ANOTHER SOLDIER!

My suggestion is just make it casual to update everytime you get on the computer. Make it as a start up thing.

Or reinstall everything (BF2 and PR) if you haven't

Thanks for the response. I have done all of the above and have been uninstalling/reinstalling PB using pbsvc.exe and pbsetup.exe before each game start up, with a PC reboot in between. PB still wins

Yeah, I had this problem with .8, but not with .85. I have contacted PB, there is nothing we can do.

Trying one more complete uninstall of BF2 and all mods. I'll repost with results...

I think I may have been having the same problem as you, if this doesn't work, the only thing I can suggest is to reformat your computer. Although it may be a little extreme, it fixed my PB problems for me.

Unfortunately a reformat is not an option unless absolutely necessary for basic PC functionality. I have a dozen games installed on a partition. And i have a bajillion apps installed. To reformat and reinstall to get back to where I am today on this rig would literally take months :28_behead
(I forgot how long the 1.41 patch takes to install!)

Any thought that maybe its one of those bajillion apps installed running in the back ground throwing off PB? I know even simple programs like TS overlay will boot you.

It can also be caused by certain hardware (keyboards for example) that can boot you aswell.

wow, never heard of hardware causing conflicts with a software based anti-cheat :s

Nothing in the mod touches PB, other than the md5 checks. What's the error you get? Unless it's an md5 error, it's all down to what Evenbalance dictate that is scanned when running BF2 1.41 :(

I'm not going to say a good defrag wont help but doubt its that. I'm guessing its a apps running. PB is picky.

I only get "heartbeat stopped" from time to time and get kicked from the server.

most times at the end of a round or the start of a new one.

PB is getting on my nerves too.

most times I quit after I got kicked... Maybe thats good because I am gaming too much anyway :)

Yeah, I'm defragging as good practice after any uninstall/install, not as method of troubleshooting - call me anal :-)

I get every kind of PB kick there seems to be -

MD5, Packet Loss etc etc etc - it differs on a seemingly random but persistent basis. That is why I cannot nail it down. That is why I am so pissed off at Evenbalance.

Only running vital processes. No unneccessary apps runninng - ever :!:

What kinda of exact PB problems are you having? any sample of a few would help.
