[Question] Infantry versus Armor

Post by NyteMyre »

With the new 0.85 kit system in mind read this hypothetical situation.

You are with your squad on the frontline in Muttrah. Because you're pretty far (say 500 meters) from the closest firebase, you put a rally. You advance another 200 meters into the city and you encounter the enemies APC. Your squad doesn't have a HAT/LAT available, and there's no APC-support or Close Air Support. The APC has spotted you and is hunting you.

So in short, you pretty far away from the closest supply crate and you have an APC on your tails.

What do you do in this situation?

---

I think an encounter with an APC in 0.85 is pretty deadly. When it didn't see you, you can let it pass, but if they know you are there...you are pretty much toast. I always find it difficult what to do in this kind of situation. I usually say something like: "Disperse and rendezvous on this location (put marker on map)".

Hide in the shower

No joke, its like the safest room in the whole building on Muttrah.

At least thats what I tell the people in the squad...they all come in to the shower with me.

Muwhaha.. :p

----------------------------------------

The one and only thing you can do is to tell it's position on side chat and run..

But allways try to have a LAT or HAT -guy in your squad in these situations..

Well if its not muttrah, you are without shower bunkers, and therefore shall die.

I was half joking anyway, just hide wherever you can, small depressions that can only be seen by standing next to them are the best I find. But if the tank/whatever has managed to come on ur pos without you being ready, there really isn't much you can do.

Cant kill it, leave it. Another problem on Muttrah huge difference between BTR and LAV, but its for another thread
APC is not big problem in urban area, if you meet it in the field w\o AT=fail

Just run away from it, jump in the water, get inside buildings, alleyways, if you have a jeep just drive away.

Just hide...

What do you do in this situation?

Run and hide, use smoke if you got it and try to confuse the crew with it.

But essentially make sure in the first place you don't get caught in such a situation.

  • Teamwork - not only with your own squad but with the other squads as well.
  • Simplicity - 1 squad cover 1 street in the movement/action direction. 2 squads like that being up front covering 2 flanking streets and 1 squad in their rear covering their Alphas.
  • Rest of the team - support/reserves/scouts for the 3 front squads (including an AT/engineer element)
Define irony. A bunch of guys playing PR year after year. A game teaching initiative as the prime mover.
However, in regard to EA, these guys never took the initiative.

On a map where APCs IFVs are a threat never be far from a LAT/HAT. The whole point of those kits is to have something you can do in case you fact an enemy APC.

Say there are no restrictions on how you can handle the situation.

"What would you do against an enemy APC"

Answer: "HAT his ***"

Without organic AT support realistically you shouldn't even be that far ahead of your team. Special forces that operation behind enemy lines where armor can be a threat would carry some AT. And even then they wouldn't be looking to engage that much. They'd stay unseen. Forward infantry need the necessary tools to deal with the likely threats or else its just a waste of tickets.

There is no probable solution to this problem if HATs or LATs aren't available (and you aren't INS that is).

In the situation you've got, there's one option, and that's hide. If you're on a map like EJOD or Muttrah, hide in buildings. If you're on a map like Kashan... you're kind of screwed.

Err, it really doesnt...

In this situation you hide, hope it doesnt see you and wait for support. If you're sensible then you will most likely have some form of support available eg. on Muttrah either friendly APC/cobra/HAT equipped squad etc.

What are you doing out in the open? An infantry squad should always be in conceal, using it's sprint to get into cover whilst moving.

Get a member to jump on top of it whilst the rest of the squad does a runner.

You should have assumed there would be armor in the first place and planned for it. But in the event that such a situation DOES happen, hit the dirt and crawl to the lowest place you can find. You'd be surprised at how blind armor drivers are sometimes :P .
