Tank only - map layer
An idea I had for a while for both Kashan and Qinling.
Can we use the layer for 128 players as a special map mode with armor only.
No scout heli's, no transport heli, no CAS jets or anything, just ground units.
We already have the 16p layers which are infantry only, so why not armor only too? It would provide some interesting game play since you'd be playing on a map big enough for armor tactics isntead of 'ending up in enemy main base as soon as you leave yours' like al-Kufrah and lack of air support would mean that there would be no easy way of just dropping a bomb onto the enemy armor.
The JDAM could remain as an area attack, but seeing artillery would be more interesting since there isn't supposed to be any air support and artillery actually pounds an area for a while instead of the JDAM that only kills at impact, then it leaves a huge harmless smoke cloud.
The extra player slots from no air and no anti-air could go to infantry or you could increase the number of tanks on both sides from 4 to 6.
Discuss?

I'd like
but I'd a flag where infantry can hide a little, the idea being that the map isn't won by the first tank battle, you can get a respawn vehicle wave or two

I found this sentence quite funny and since this is a war game forum I will put it here. No offense to the french just a good laugh.

Re: Tank only - map layer
As long as there is an alternate layer that involves ONLY air vehicles and infantry, I'd be cool with it.
(For the slots of an airforce (Two jets and an attack helo), how about a large spawnaircraft?)

Players might be hardcoded, but that sure doesn't seem to stop anybody from trying.
The only winning move is not to play. Insurgency, that is.

Re: Tank only - map layer
6 x 3 = 18, might as well go for 8! 24 + 1 infantry squad, + commander + 1 extra guy (perhaps scout helo, just to help get the combat going) = 32. or just leave the helo since many servers have 2 reserved slots, so 31.[R-COM]Outlawz wrote: The extra player slots from no air and no anti-air could go to infantry or you could increase the number of tanks on both sides from 4 to 6.
seeing 18 tanks come to gether in epic pwnage would just make my day

Nice idea! but how realitic? A large piece of armour brigade do attract heli's and jets like wasps to a birthday cake, dont' they?

Re: Tank only - map layer
He did not mean 128 players, he meant the layer. There is one map in vanilla BF2 with 128 player layer, ofc it doesn't give 128 players. But just like 16 player layer can be played with 64 players, so can 128. We would get then four layers,Zimmer wrote:I think it works you just cant have 128 players on the server![]()
16= infantry only,
32= light vechiles -,
64= mixed vechiles -,
128= heavy vechiles only.
Not bad idea at all, could be cool to have few maps with huge tank battles, though the tickets should be low, otherwise the round would end up being several hours long, and thats no good, imo.

It would have to have unique kit limiting? I.e. More AT? Perhaps new kits, more engineers? I like the idea though. Would be great fun.

A map like Kashan Desert or Battle for Qinling with MANY tanks, light infantry vehicles, and no air would be awesome. Also maybe a commander feature for taking out a tank by the GLTD would be interesting. But mostly focused on Tank warfare without the nuisance of attack helo's shooting hellfires STRAIGHT DOWN would be AWESOME.

Re: Tank only - map layer
Yep. There should epic tank v tank battles. However, I think the ticket count should be high because the game will go fast if tanks are dying constantly. The DEVs need to pay attention to this post. There is a demand for tank, support vehicles only map (with lots of tanks). Also, INF could get some more AT and support assaulting tanks. The new game mode would work perfect for this type of massive battle (i don't know the name of the game mode, but it is where each team build outposts and you take them from each other). This would give an attack/defend feel to the game (instead of tanks blindly rushing each other).
