Eliminating Picking Up Kits from kills
I wonder how the game would play out if one was unable to take kits from downed friendlies and or enemies? This would make those specialities (which actually require training) like medic from being "learned" by picking up a kit.
I like the idea of having kits chosen at caches or crates but would it be possible to eliminate bags being dropped when killed, bags that can be picked up?
Another option would be that to grab a bag (and all the gear with it) one would have to hold down G while a progress bar began to fill to simulate a search of the body and collection of all gear.
Maybe its hardcoded and cant be removed. I dunno.

Realism and fun aren't mutually exclusive.

Re: Eliminating Picking Up Kits from kills
normally i would have said this is maybe not the best idea because if you ran out of ammo, you could pick up a fallen comrades gear, or a fallen enemys weapon. i mean you can do it in real life too. however, now that you literally put their clothes on and it leads to alot of TKs, this may not be such a bad idea anymore.
shouldnt this go in the suggestion forum?

It would also solve the problem of being revived only to find someone has taken your kit while you were down. That shits me off big time. Fair enough if you're down for like a minute and you had a HAT kit and theres a tank bearing down on you. But not when a non-squad memeber sees you fall and then rushes over to take your kit when they can clearly see a medic is near by.
But on the other hand, it would annoy me knowing that I couldn't cycle a kit for someone, or be able to use an enemy kit if need be. So I'm not sure if it's the right way to go

Cause we throw bombs on it, throw bombs on it. Just smash something, yeah mosh for me.

I think it's not a bad idea at all. What's the point in picking up others kits anyway ? Everybody has a weapon. So for the weapon's sake it doesn't make sense. Also, by eliminating the kit pickup, supporting classes such as medics and engineers would have to be better protected by their squad and stay in background, for they won't drop their equipment when they die. This would add some nice tactical advantage to the gameplay.

And in real life if you mate with the M249 was downed would you just leave his gun there? I'm not in the army but i imagine that some one would want to grab it to fill the role.
Having some kits not drop is possible, the civilian used to do it until it broke.

I like it, especially the "gear up" bar.

Just make medic kit disappear after players death, like civilian kit used to do.
- It happened to me on Op. Archer when medic instead of reviving me just stole my marksman kit
And its even worse when the person who took your kit when you were down was a medicIt would also solve the problem of being revived only to find someone has taken your kit while you were down.

Re: Eliminating Picking Up Kits from kills
Don't agree at all with this. For one thing the players taking dead friendly kits isn't so common as to warrant such a major change. And picking up enemy kits is IRL very common and realistic, especially among Taliban and insurgents. Wouldn't be fair in the game if they couldn't steal from dead BluFor troops considering how hard it is to kill them with what they have.
The picking up of uniforms is a glitch, but I also like that because it forces people to be more cautious with what they shoot and especially with what they pick up. Typically it's kinda sad if a coalition soldier needs a Taliban or Iraqi kit anyways.

Simplest solution if the coding gods allow it, would be to teamlock kits

I wouldnt mind if the request kits and medic disappeared on death since the majority of them require special training in order to operate. It would take time or a grasp of the english language for a taliban to understand how to operate a HAT kit or grenadier kit. The normal spawn kits are just a rifle and aren't as bad, but specialized kits require a certain level of training (medic included with specialized).

Re: Eliminating Picking Up Kits from kills
this is kind of what i was going to suggest. maybe we can make it so only certain kits can be picked up, ie the simpler kits. riflemen kits, autoriflemen kits, grenadier, crewmen {but obviously only for the weapon} specialist, maybe LAT, these kits can be picked up because the weapons dont require a huge amount of training. however kits like officer, medic, HAT, marksman, sniper, AA riflemen, engineer, shouldnt be pick-upable because its not too realistic for an enemy rifleman to go and pick up a HAT kit from the other team and know how to use it. Or even a guy from his own team. This would make it so that kits are even more valuable and the people who have them cant scream out on voip "PICK UP MY HAT KIT!!" to their squadmates after they die.Blakeman wrote:I wouldnt mind if the request kits and medic disappeared on death since the majority of them require special training in order to operate. Re: Eliminating Picking Up Kits from kills
I'd think this is hardcoded.
No, making kits disappear sooner is not hardcoded, but I think you can either make the kits disappear, but then they also disappear as soon as you request them, or make them stay in the world for some time.
A balance could be found though. 2 or 3 seconds should be enough to pick up a requested kit and would be too long for someone to run from a distance and pick up a friendlies kit. However, standing right next to someone, that should be no problem. Also, when someone is revived they'd always spawn with a new, full version of the kit they spawned with because "their" kit is away already.

Just wanted to mention that forbidding people to pick up kits (In general or just enemy ones) is not realistic (especially for insurgents) and also makes teamwork in a squad harder for those who actually play as a team.

Re: Eliminating Picking Up Kits from kills
I was considering this idea yesterday while playing in an infantry squad (with my group/clan) and I realized just how much we use the kit swapping, especially when a medic gets killed. If we were unable to pick up a medic's kit after their wounding/death, we definitely wouldn't have had a 4:1 K/D as a squad.
Our game play would have to change entirely, with the combat medics playing much more conservatively.

Re: Eliminating Picking Up Kits from kills
right, but is it also realistic to have a medic pick up a HAT kit and magically know how to use it? or an insurgent picking it up and all of the sudden he has all the training necessary to operate a hat kit? see this is why i think it should be limited to certain kits.[R-DEV]Spearhead wrote:Just wanted to mention that forbidding people to pick up kits (In general or just enemy ones) is not realistic (especially for insurgents) and also makes teamwork in a squad harder for those who actually play as a team.

Re: Eliminating Picking Up Kits from kills
Some weird things I'm reading I have to respond to:
1) grenade launchers aren't terribly complicated to Aghans. These people adapted pretty damn quickly to Stinger and Milan missiles. Hell, some Taliban are vets of the Soviet invasion after all.
2) Ignoring that Taliban fighters could grasp HAT missiles, if a coalition soldier is so dumb that he picks up a hat kit on an insurgency map he deserves to die and let the Taliban/Iraqis take it and use it against them. Really shouldn't be a problem, stop covering for player stupidity with these suggestions, people.

Also, don't forget that if your kit disapperas when you die, no one would be able to "steal" it, though if you're revived, you'll get the kit you spawned with, not the one you died with

NOES!!! I always laugh so hard when I kill a US guy on karbala, pick up his kit, and find it's the AA kit! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!Ghost1800 wrote:Honestly, HAT and AA kits shouldn't be allowed to coalition soldiers in Insurgency, but that's another discussion.
Everyone wants to easily kill their opponent but nobody wants to be the one easily killed. That line of thinking escalates weaponry to the point where practically every soldier has a shoulder-mounted nuke launcher that when fired, automatically displays the text "pwnt".- [R-CON]Wolfe
