Royal Navy Lynx helicopter.

Post by arjan »

The American forces have the huey, littlebird and the blackhawk.
One operates around sea and the other to operate over land and the other both (in PR).
(correct me if wrong)

The british have the lynx and the merlin right now, both operate over land(in PR)
I think adding the Royal Navy lynx would add something to the game, since the HMS Ocean is being made and theirs no maps like Op. Barracuda and other amhibious maps for the British.

Comparison between the Royal Navy Lynx and the army Lynx:

It would be intresting to see some amphibious maps with the british, and this helicopter.

Smeg is working on the Ocean, it will take a while though, but if it gets in game, I'm sure that This could well be a possibility.

Its a Lynx Mk8, the Lynx we have ingame is the Lynx Mk7, there are quite big differences between them such as the undercarriage etc...

Lynx Mk8 : Fleet Air Arm : Operations and Support : Royal Navy

The Army dont use many Mk8s since they are made mainly for the navy, so really to have one realistically on a map we first need a Destroyer or a Frigate etc, and even then, the Mk8 is designed mainly for Anti-Sub and Anti-Ship warfare which is its prime role, so it would be useless in PR....

Well rhino's link also states the navy uses the MK7 for attack purposes
Lynx Mk7

Although primarily an anti-surface and anti-submarine helicopter, a second variant of the Lynx is utilised by 847 NAS. The Lynx Mk7 is an attack and utility version, giving an autonomous and flexible response against enemy forces to the Land Force Commander during Amphibious Operations. The home base for all Lynx Mk7 helicopters is the Royal Naval Air Station Yeovilton in Somerset.

I think thats probably poor wording more than anything, it used to be fitted with TOW which made it an attack variant, this is now obsolete so its now just a utility helicopter.

Yar, the lynx hasn't been used for attacking anymore.

The navy lynx would require a lot of new stuff to be added on the current model, it's not just a reskin, and imo its not worth it.

yep, otherwise we would have made the TOW Launcher racks on the side and would have it ingame :p

The Apache dose too much of a good job so the Lynx is used as a transport and utility helicopter now, which its best at ;)

Also the AH7 isn't exactly used by the Navy, its used by the Royal Marines, which is yes, part of the Navy, but isn't used without the Marines really.

If you watch the the Beach Assault video with the Ford from Top Gear you will notice that there is a bunch of Lynx AH7's being used but only for transport and utility purposes :p

When you say anti-ship and anti-sub you mean in a recon capacity right? I wouldn't exactly be quaking in my boots if I was captain of a PLA frigate...

Sea Skua

it says they are very effective aginst ships, thou the techonlgy is getting a little old thou being replaced.

The sting ray torpedo it also carries for anti-sub warfare is also very effective, the last thing a sub wants is a chopper flying over it dropping them onto of it.

Were they the camo we have now or Navy grey? Cos if we did have a beach assault map with Brits on, it would be the Marines, and if they use the grey ones, would be cool for us to :D

My point was that this could be the transport chopper for the british for amhibious assaults, like the huey.
I havent sayd anything about TOW launchers and whatsoever :)
But apperently it seems the normal lynx can be used just as good :)

The 847 NAS Lynx Mk 7s are green camo. The birds are actually on loan from the AAC to the Fleet Air Arm and crewed by RN and RM. They have "Royal Marines" painted on the tailboom.

Well its got the cradle but no gun.

A new MAG model on the cards?

We'll just have to wait and see.
