Re: American sniper rifles?
Sniper sort of has a role to play now (unlike 0.75-0.8 days). At range, a good and well positioned sniper can delay and pin a squad, but not nearly as effectively as they should be able to do. To be honest I think they're best for killing stationary positions at the moment until we see some changes to the way revives and healing work.

i never liked the fact that they removed the camo of the sniper. sure, maybe it didn't render far away, but i mostly used it when being walked on top of.

Re: American sniper rifles?
I dont have any problems with any sniper yet. I can still kill as much as I used to do. With all the sniper experience in all the past rounds en versions. I call myself a Project Reality Sniper Pro. I can hit almost any target and even running targets. Its just you have to feel the feeling of sniping. And you need enough patience. Dont rush with your shots. If you cant hit him. Leave him! But keep an eye on him. I like the way they remove the Ghillie Suit. It looks more proffesional.

Re: American sniper rifles?
United States Marines Corps use the M40A3 as sniper riffle, Army use M24... basicly they are the same weapons, but M40A3 is extensively modified by hand by USMC gunsmiths...Paine wrote:I believe the marines have the M40A3, and the army have the M24 (which doesn't make sense because IRL it is just the opposite). At any rate, all the rifles have different limiting factors, they all shoot differently; the only way to get to know each one is practice and experience.
As a rule though the Sniper Kits are for spotting enemy movement to your team, calling in CAS with the GLTD, and lastly engaging high priority targets such as enemy specialty kits and officers.

Re: American sniper rifles?
Okay, some clarification, here:
The M24 is based on the Remington 700 long action. This was selected because they originally wanted to use a .30-06 cartridge and develop a high power, high accuracy round for it. When it was found there wasn't enough .30-06 ammo in Army stocks left to go through, they kept the long action because they were on a tight development schedule. The long action enables it to be re-chambered for .300 Win Mag, but the US Army never intended it for that, and I;'ve only heard of it being done by certain SF and maybe Ranger units. They were originally built/assembled from selected components by the US Army Marksmanship Unit Equipment Shop, but Remington picked up production of the full-systems sometime between then and now.
The M40A3 is based on the Remington 700 short action, and is assembled from commercial, off-the-shelf match grade components (from various manufacturers) by the USMC Precision Weapons Section armorers. It was recently upgraded to a detachable box magazine trigger guard, so it has that capability, while the M24 is still fed from an integral box magazine, and must be "topped off" with individually loaded rounds or a stripper.
And of course, the optics are different, however the Marines did at one point use a fixed, 10x telescopic sight like the Army.
Both use the M118LR special ball round, and when combined with this round both are extremely accurate.

eddie, stop and listen to them. They know more about sniping and kit than we do. We'd do well to listen to them.'[R-DEV wrote:Eddie Baker;941162']Okay, some clarification, here:

Seriously though. Nothing as amusing as a european telling one of PR's US mil advisors what kit the US use

Nah. I think this topic has run its course anyway.
