Vehicle exiting, cameras & delay.

Post by Arnoldio »

Searched, similar things came up, but not really relevant.

Mainly "cosmetic" suggestions

So, vehicle exiting points could be spiced up a bit. Merlin is a nice example, you have side doors, back hatch, door guys exit on the outside (wich is fine), window guys exit on the inside (wich is fine). So Merlin is ok so far... I'm talking about other choppers, the cow, blackhawk, chinese thing. Lynx has both exits small so it doesnt matter because it would be frustrating.

The mec and chinese chopper has open back. Two seats (or one, don't remember) are positioned near the exit, but all the rest (exluding pilot/copilot) should spawn inside upon exiting (like merlin) and run out. For blackhawk and huey, same thing for the positions wich are inside.

Transport trucks could use same thing for people in the back, only one of the guys near to the back could open the bar so they can drop down easily.

Adds to realism if not anything else.

Cameras in APCs bug me... There could be 2 cameras, one on the inside, one on the periscope, the inside onebeing the main, periscope being stationary. I know there is work needed to create interior.

Last but not least, delay upon switching seats/exiting vehicles. You could implement delay upon different types of positions in the vehicle. APC would take Lets say 1 sec to open the hatch. Humvee should get .8 secs for opening the door, .5 secs for rising from seats on trucks, choppers (2 secs for pilot/copilot, unstrapping, opening the door) etc etc...
Switching from 50.cal on humvees to another seat, again 1.5 secs or so... Same delay for entering the vehicles. Well, you get the idea.

I have enough of writing :D

It was funny in DC, exiting the Hercules you had to run all the way to the back before it crashed :D

I like your ideas. Would be nice to see them ingame.
But are things like "exiting inside" possible with the BF2 Engine?

Yes, merlin is an example.

I don't think the chinese helicopter etc have a real "inside". You cant jump in from outside either. There's some invisible wall I'm pretty sure.

Yea, with most choppers, actually. Only chopper that's "enterable" is the Merlin. I've tried often enough to get in, without success. and if you spawned inside the vehicle, you'd just drop right through, like wall glitching.

At least that's what I'm thinking.

We would need to make our own model to make it enterable. Dice was extremely lazy making bf2 so lots of details are not there

I like the America's Army switch-seat system but it might be impossible on BF2 Engine.

inside choppering with EA models is impossible (or maybe you need to create a new collisionmesh)

delay between switch seats.. do not know

but enter delay for vehicales is possible, but if it looks right and works the way we want it another thing.

I would like to support the idea of delays entering and exiting vehicles even if their is no camera view change but rather a warm up time for the vehicle that lasts a few seconds (A tank should take a few moments getting into and getting to the controls)

Even something like a helo, you have to climb in, switch it on get everything prepared which is shown in the warm up time for the engine but a little entry delay would be nice.

Exiting is a big issue though, the most annoying thing is when you're in a tank, you've hit an enemy tank in the rear, they know they're dead so they'll bail out and they're instantly outside and running. It should take a few moments before they are actually outside. Even if it's just a second or two's delay.

hmm.... warm up time for tanks... So in next patch noobs can flip over and blow up tanks and choppers... sounds great!

And now for real. I like the idea of vehicle warm up times so you need to think ahead a little even when using vehicles.
