I say yes but I think the transport capabilities need to be removed and so do guns.

I think that's what they are doing to the Chinook since the BF2 engine only allows a maximum of 8 people in a vehicle.
Instead of being transport focused, it will carry supply crates, vehicles and maybe even repair stations.

I think the troop transport role will probably still be used if it makes it into PR, just in tandem with all the other stuff that they might add like 2 supply crates and vehicle spawn etc, IF it makes it in

not all that realistic tbh, since the repair drop/crate is meant to simulate what really happens when a vehicle gets shot up on the field and say its disabled, then what happens is a engineering vehicle comes in to recover and repair it if they can.

video below, at the begging will show a bit of a staged version of what happens more or less in r/l, a little short etc but you get the idea.
The main point is thou, choppers dont do this, the only time I've heard of any chopper do anything remotely like this is when Chinook wrecks have been air lifted out by a Mi-26 but ehhh, that was pretty one off afaik as it was pretty hostile area that ground vehicles could not get to.
The main point being, helicopters on there own don't repair vehicles on the battlefield, they might assist in some way but they can do that with the load out they have now, having them drop a repair crate would be unrealistic.
