a small suggestion

Post by Poetic_Justice »

i'd like to see the engineers c4 changed to a satchel charge. I know it's relatively old technology but as you know the current c4 on the engineer is a much bigger explosion than regular c4 and essentially a satchel is just a bag filled with c4 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satchel_charge) the problem with this is the ability to stick it to any surface, anyway the point is that the spec ops c4 and the engineers are too similar

yeah.. true.. it tends to confuse me when I see SLAM and C4.. i can't tell which is which, and the beeps aren't loud enough (full volume). So most of the time, we end up running into SLAM and killing ourselves.

Not nice.

Hey Guys,

We are actually modelling a SLAM for Spec Ops. I didn't realise how much of a problem it would cause to have the SLAM temporarily use the C4 model hehe.

It's quite funny to watch a "Jihad Jeep" when the guy gets in and is like "wtf is teh beeping" and then blows himself up 20m down the road :)

The SLAM looks like this:

Will there be a way to perhaps flick between methods of detination? such as how you can change between firing modes or some weapons? Have timed and a remote detonation functions? Because IMHO i think you have taken the sneakyness of spec ops away by having timed explosives, not to much but there is still a degrading factor about it.

thats because the SLAM in Half Life 2 is a SLAM in real life. :)

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of the SLAM either. They're too weak, give your position away and nobody seems to know that they'll give you if you go near them. If they're going to have beeps and 15 seconds to run, they might as well be more powerful, I mean it's impossible not to notice them. And just three of them? Before, one spec ops guy could take out two assets, now you need two spec ops guys to take out one asset. It's not that that's the problem, it's that you can't really blow up anything. The engie's super C4's fine, except he only has one. I'd rather trade in the claymores for another C4...

Claymores are possibly the most usefull thing, bar maybe the C4, that an engineer has.

Without his SMG how will he defend himself apart from planting limited explosives everyware?

The British Army does not use anti-personal mines so i think the MEC and PLA will have an advantage in this way.

Ambushes in BF2 were hard to carry out, hideing from the troublesome UAV and Scan's took the sence of hideing away. Anti-personal mines are used in ambushes, enemys who fight back may try to run at you in force, APmines are perfect to prevent that; i think PR is the only game/mod that might be able to practice this.

the SLAMs are ment for the job of blowing up bridges, and Arty cannons ect. Not for sticking on tanks.

If you ask me the SLAMs are 1 of the coolest things in this version.

It'd be nice if there could be a beep pattern change when the fus is almost up, like the C4 in Counter-Strike for example, where it gets faster before detonation. Would give people a bit better warning that they're about to blow up. If they're going to be that weak, I still suggest they get more of them.

I've never really liked claymores myself, in vBF2 my most played class was the sniper class, and I hardly ever used them. Even if I was hiding on a building, I'd always rely on my ears to protect me, not a claymore. Yes, they're effective, but they're a menace to every single player on the field, regardless of team. I hate the fact that when you see one, you know you can't do anything about it except hope it disappears. Engineers should be built to be a class designed to run around, repair vehicles, plant mines and create ambushes. Claymores are too messy for my liking, I guess I won't ever like them until they're less invincible. :(

The whole point of an anti-personal mine is too halt an enemy, you could disable it but like in Vietnam, running past and marking it is easyer.

Real claymores are supposed to have a 100m range and some even have sights on them, so you sit behind them and trigger them when someone comes past and have "FRONT TOWARD ENEMY" printed on one side. BF2 ones blow up if anything comes close to either side, and the explosion damages anything in front or behind it. They're not tactical, they're just lucky, or unlucky, depending what side you're on.

the claymores need a detonator button similar the the engys c4. I hate setting up claymores, killing one guy, and watching the rest of his squad run right thru the line of fire of my former claymore.

Yeah, I think detonators would be an excellent addition, that way they require some element of skill to use, and stray claymores aren't a threat to anyone, unless the engie's poised to detonate. Would probably require a newly modelled detonator so as not to be confused with C4. :)

i think engineers should be able to defuse them by proning over them

Would be nice, but where's the reality in engineers being invisible to the sensors?
