why no battleships?

Post by Elektro »

I was just wondering why there are no battleships in PR?

i remember playing BF 1942 ;D you could control the battleships and submarines there ... it was really fun and japan had to do kamikaze / bomb the ships.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the "Queen of the sea" has been more or less obsolete since the dawn of the aircraft carrier, hence no battleships.

I also suspect that the engine no longer supports it.

battleships=fun but bf2 engian = fail

if it could move, then you would fall throw if your standing on it, unless some smart person can figure out a way arround that.
i played it to on 1942, and it would be fun, but once your on the ship, there would probly be atleast a dedicated captian, and dedicated gunners, and then code in some seats by the gun for a spotter to move to, but other then that it might not work well....
also, how would they get repairs?
it would have to become a new system =(

Oh ya.

From birds to Missiles.

So naval combat in PR, doesnt fit at all.
  • Submarines can be killed a LONG distance
    Carriers never see action
Battleships would destroy everything on their path
The most common Ship now would be the Frigate, or Destroyer
So, basically, a single Frigate could destroy a couple of Anti Ship missiles...

its not an engine limitation, it would be quite easy to make something like the essex drivable. its just not appropriate for project reality, because of the scale required and time needed for a realistic modern naval battle.

What he's saying is that modern day naval vessels are so powerful that, if implemented with full realism in PR, the round would be over within a minute of starting.

Which is true. All ship guns ondeck are almost completely computer controlled. Just think about it, how well could a human hit an anti-carrier tactical nuclear missile traveling at Mach 3 on a zig zag flight path 50 feet above the deck? Lol

It would still be nice if PR could implement a fllet verse fleet battle or something of the like.

Maybe the Ships can have three spawns with several points to be in it. SO when you spawn, you spawn in the ship. But moving carriers would be hard without doubt....

Battleships, in the WWII definition of a huge, steel ship with loads of BFGs are no longer used. Frigates with Anti-ship Torpedoes, Missiles, and Missile intercepting Vulcan guns now dominate the ocean. It's become a "who's got longer-range equipment that can bypass detection" sort of ideal, though I've never heard of it ever being used [in a naval battle between conventional forces].

Almost every last component of it is computer controlled, except for one person with a Big Red Button. If you wanted to do something interesting and pr suitable, it'd be to make a Nemo Ship-esque map with somali pirates fighting over a commercial ship, with a frigate passing by and intercepting. But, unless you are interested and make the initiative of making the models and getting people interested, it'll never be accomplished.

Oh, dindt know that Bosco Posted heh.

Well, a mighty guy had a internal version. There was a map, whit "Subs" (Sadly NOT in the map, but its on the Game Files), DD's and a Carrier.

If my memory Works, it was the HMS Ark Royal. And it had planes.

The guy didnt used the Carrier, he just drived around whit the DD.

A Tip, ask Polka.

Oh and sorry, i cant find a pic now. Im going to ask on their forums for help. Also, it should be added to the Vehicles list on their website.

Because for the US and Britain, Battleships were decommissioned after the Korean War.

The Iowa class battleships, although decommissoned and are museum ships cannot be altered, Just incase the US Navy decides to throw in a couple 16' shells into a battle one day :D
