Like i suggested the pilot should fall under the coalitions RoE that they will not fire on Un-armed soldiers.

this punishes pilots with out leaving them defenseless with out a with a RoE defense A pilot should have alot of sta all i got on my head atm.

Hmm I kinda like that idea, and maybe you can capture them and they some how mark enemy bases on your map.....not sure where the inspiration for this is coming from...must of been something I saw on TV :)

I'm going to stop posting in this because I doubt a small minority of people crying will make the Devs put something back in that they feel is a detriment to the game.
Everyone wants to easily kill their opponent but nobody wants to be the one easily killed. That line of thinking escalates weaponry to the point where practically every soldier has a shoulder-mounted nuke launcher that when fired, automatically displays the text "pwnt".- [R-CON]Wolfe

now i hate to fly in pr because i am unarm at least the pistol and knife would do because in pr 0.8 the pistol saved my life from an insurgent i forgot the map any way a jet pilot in the U.S. army when he ejects from his jet he has 2 bags the bags have food water radios and smoke to tell where u are at for the heli and he also has a pistol and knife come on and heli pilots i think they have a pistol or an smg dont remember what my dad told when he had a friend in the gulf war that fly a black hawk and he told me the the weapons he had but still this game is suppose to be real and do u think any army would leave their pilot unarm behind enemy lines come on plz just some sort of weapon u can make a jet and heli pilot kit i dont really care as long has they have some sort of weapon to defend themselves cause if i get shoot down behind enemies line they not going to let me live this is a reality mod for peek sake not a fake 1 like the other mods i have no army i know would let their pilot be killed without a fight at least let them have a chance to defend themselves till a squad or vehicle come to save their butts from death or captivity

Yeah, I went to public school too...

OT: Nobody is claiming that it's realistic to take the Pilot's weapons away, we're saying that the Pilot should remain unarmed as it discourages Rambo-esque lone wolfing. When a pilot is downed, he should seek to escape and evade the enemy, not attempt to hunt them down.

Stop ignoring what we are saying man.

We say this should happen:
1. Pilot cannot pick up enemy kits, just like the collaborator.
also
2. The pistol is much much weaker, nobody is going to do any "rambo" (Or even want to) with 2 clips.

You can say what ever you want, but when you are shot down.. Everybody knows. They all rush to you with their automatic rifles and you have nothing to do. A little pistol would at least wound one of them and make them take cover and apply dressings while you run away. Since you also cannot take kits, you will be forced to go back to the base.

So in a nutshell the two largest arguments are
pro pistol: being killed after eject is not fun coupled with the 20 minute vehicle respwn time
Best argument for: You have to be some type of pistol god to avoid dying and get rescued at the same time
Best argument against: Some people are pistol wielding gods capable of killing the enemy and upgrading themselves from a wimpy pistol to an assualt rifle people also known as the species Rambos

no pistol: having some noob paratroop behind enemy lines and somehow pwn everyone with the pistol kills all the fun and Tk's would destroy the world
Best argument for: no pistols would stop the smacktard disease in its tracks and pilots would have to train themselves to become better pilots forming a new race of super aces
Best arguments against: you can Tk pretty much any one with any weapon in the gaem and as long as the team killer keeps both his infantry pack and pilot kit alive pistols only matter if he wants to TK in style and also as stated before there are no pistol gods (if you choose not to count me)

note: The grammatical errors are here for fun. I know this a heated and educated debate for all PR players, but lighten up a little.

Pretty much, I guess it's up to the devs to decide.


(oh and prevent the pilot from being able to pick up enemy kits because that would solve the rambo problem)

Sorry to bump, but I just realized with the integration of mumble technology in the next release, downed pilots would be EXTREMELY sought after sources of enemy intel, just like they are in real life (or is that Hollywood only? :P )

The fact that the pilot would be unarmed makes capture easy, especially if it's mumbling.

"Attention US pilot! Come with us or ve vill keel you!" :D
And then a whole interrogation would ensue, as a pilot would not want to die out of his aircraft (with some sort of punishment being a 5 min spawntime if death outside of vehicle, keeping a pilot from suiciding to keep from betraying his team). So yes, that would lead to some intense "escape from behind enemy lines" action!

Which brings up a thought- players cannot operate the other teams vehicles, but surely they should be able to get in them?

I would like to see the pistol again on a couple of conditions:

1.) Limit the ammo amount to 2 mags (or 1?)
2.) Make it so the pilot can't pick up enemy kits. Kind of like the Collaborator but only for enemy kits.
3.) Make it a limited kit? But, not so limited that good pilots can't get the kit when need be. Maybe a limit of 10-12 (lower?) at any given time.

I'm not sure if condition #2 is workable but who knows.... I'm not a leet programmer.

Another discussion that should be discussed in a different thread is the all crewman squads pub servers now see. Instead of all-pilot squads, we now have all-crewman squads. Especially on the MEC side with their MP5 derived guns.
