Next release: pilot penalties
Hi all, I thought up a cool idea to implement into the whole flying experience.
When a pilot is shot down in the field, he is generally hunted down by the enemy and captured. Then intel is extracted from him via torture/whatever.
Well, with the almost sure integration of mumble technology into upcoming PR releases, evading capture as a pilot downed behind enemy lines would become extremely damn essential, as to avoid possibly betraying your team.
Now you ask, who the hell would betray their team in the first place? Well, you just might if threatened with a 10 minute respawn.
But wait! Keep reading. This 10 minute respawn only happens if you die OUTSIDE a vehicle. Meaning that if you splode midair, it's the normal respawn time. This basically encourages avoiding enemy capture, as you most likely will be killed if you refuse to divulge critical team info. And then have a ridiculously long respawn time.
______
This is all considering they do not distort the enemies voices and such in the integrated mumble software, leaving you
unable to converse with the enemy as you can now. Then there would be no way to state intentions of surrender/interrogate.

1) Probably end up like the civilian right now. People will just shoot anyway and laugh at his spawn time. A third won´t know, a third won´t care and a third just might do something.
2) Escape, disconnect, select server, reconnect, problem for the pilot sorted.

Not solved if some type of non-escapable death timer is made. Hell, I could use that exploit now for long respawn times, that needs to be fixed.Alex6714 wrote:1) Probably end up like the civilian right now. Besides, what it'll do is really motivate downed pilots to get back home alive

If pilots have a 10min spawn outside of the heli/plane than people will tk like mad either to stop others getting the assets or just because they think it funny to make people wait 10mins.
Lots of love

Re: Next release: pilot penalties
thats effectively punishing pilots for surviving.
I wish there were more rewards for pilot survival, rather than punishments.
Like...if a pilot survives he can cut his vehicle's spawn time in half or something.
A REWARD for behaving realistically rather than the standard "BEHAVE REALISTICALLY OR I'LL FORCE YOU TO STARE AT THE SPAWN SCREEN WHICH YOU AINT GONNA DO SINCE ITS BORING SINCE YOU'LL JUST LEAVE THE SERVER ANYWAY"
btw the caps were used to give an impression of a oppressive person.

Yeah, but unfortunatly punishments get through to people better than rewards. Besides, the people who leave the server because of the wait aren't really teamplayers then. I mean, I go through the pain of 300 second respawns as a killed civvie only to respawn civvie again, as I know everytime they kill me their team looses another 10 ticketsDr2B Rudd wrote:thats effectively punishing pilots for surviving.

If there's some sort of way to implement a reward system though, I support!!!
Even if that reward is the reward of NOT having to wait 10 mins because I successfully escaped! Haha

I dislike this assumption.cfschris wrote: Besides, the people who leave the server because of the wait aren't really teamplayers then.
If I enjoy playing AIX does that mean I don´t like realism or teamwork?

Re: Next release: pilot penalties
iirc, you are wrong. ticket penality removed after .75a killed civvie only to respawn civvie again, as I know everytime they kill me their team looses another 10 tickets
you have been wasting your life watching the spawn screen for absolutely no reason, don't force pilots to do the same

Re: Next release: pilot penalties
why would a pilot ever bail out? he'd just go down with the aircraft every time.

Re: Next release: pilot penalties
I'm against this. This will discourage pilots, and we for sure need them, especially now. (with the influx of noob pilots) People will just go down with their plane rahter than trying to survive like a normal person. To be honest I'm against super long spawn times anyway, there is enough waiting while playing. You die as pilot, wait, wait for plane, wait to takeoff, wait for target, hop out, wait to parachute down, then wait to get shot because the other team has an idiot on it.

I like this. Those that know of it would use it to their best advantage. It would probably be possible to code some reward for your asset if you come back alive. think about it. Any pilot who knows of the system would do their very best to get back to base alive if they knew that their asset would spawn faster. Plus, rather than simply ruining someone's day by making them watch a black screen for so long, the rewards system would be more engaging.Dr2B Rudd wrote:thats effectively punishing pilots for surviving.

Aye. Although I bet we'll be met with some sort of hardcoded somethin.McLuv wrote:I like this. Those that know of it would use it to their best advantage. Hopefully not! I dont really care for what I suggested, I just want something implemented to make pilots want to survive and escape, just like real life.

Well, I don't think affecting the spawn times by returning to base is completely possible per se, but I believe you might be able to link something like a limited kit request system to the aircraft. I don't know, we can continue to bounce off ideas to try and figure it out

i like rudd way of saying that if he survives that the vehicle time can be reduced that's a good idea.

No you can't chris. Vehicle spawn times are server side. SO you'll just be wasting your slot on the servercfschris wrote:Not solved if some type of non-escapable death timer is made. Hell, I could use that exploit now for long respawn times, that needs to be fixed.

Give him a damn mp5 and if he makes it back alive...THEN He deserves a less spawn time. But basically thats impossible with the BF2 Engine....We should give him a new clip and a cookie in my opinion
