Boarding (but not operating) enemy vehicles?
I have a sinking feeling this has been mentioned before.....but here goes.
I can understand not being able to operate an enemy vehicle, but surely anyone can just sit inside a vehicle? Additionally, I think basic vehicle positions (.50 cal roof guns are what I have in mind) should be operable by the enemy side. Hell, there are true stories of soldiers taking out .50 cal emplacements and then using them to take down more enemy.

You know, that's what I thought at first. Then I remembered I have been playing PR so long that I forgot you can hijack enemy vehicles in vBf2thecoolj85 wrote:it might be hardcoded

well other than the posobility of it being hardcoded its a good idea

Haha dude it's not hardcoded at all! Think vehicles in regular bf2- anyone can use em regardless of side.thecoolj85 wrote:well other than the posobility of it being hardcoded its a good idea
And the matter of not allowing enemies to use certain vehicle positions, it's just a matter of implementing the "you do not have the right kit for this vehicle position" blackout/immobilized vehicle thing.

But then any empty vehicles would show up on the player map, which is even more unrealistic. It's pretty much all or nothing.cfschris wrote:Haha dude it's not hardcoded at all! Think vehicles in regular bf2- anyone can use em regardless of side.

Well, Why would you want to board a enemy vehicle in the first part? What if they just decide to pop up and they have some bombs under it or something, and boom, there goes your life...

Well, the RIB boats shouldn't be team restricted and .50 cal emplacements shouldn't be team restricted either.

Is there a way around that at all? Possible to have ONLY vehicles designated as your sides vehicle despite that enemies can also enter the vehicle (but not use any intricate positions which would require "training")?[R-DEV]Eddie Baker wrote:But then any empty vehicles would show up on the player map, which is even more unrealistic. Possibly because there's a .50 cal on it, and it would be real useful to board the vehicle and use it against the enemy but OOooh, darn. The writing on the barrel is in Arabic, which I can't read.Spartan0189 wrote:Well, Why would you want to board a enemy vehicle in the first part? Now that just ain't realistic. You can be illiterate and still fire a machine gun. It requires no special knowledge or skill, as opposed to, say, an enemy APC gunner position

Sounds good, but i would like that you could use the enemy cars to. I understand that you cant use enemy tanks, supply trucks etc. But cars? How hard can it be? I hate when youre in a transport chopper and get shot down by enemy AA, only you and 2 more survive. You walk 200 meters and see a enemy car, empty. Lets see, just 1,5 km left to walk to regroup... It would be much easier to take the car

I think that if you get into enemy vehicule you would be able to enter all enemy vehicules. It's pretty much all or nothing.
it's better the way it is.And don't think it's so easy to fire a machine gun you don't know, you lust know how to load it , where the ammo are in the vehicule, and how to shoot it often it's not just a little trigger that you push.

He doesn't mean unlocking the vehicles is hardcoded, he means that only allowing you to be in certain seats is hardcoded. You can either get in all seats, or you can't.cfschris wrote:Haha dude it's not hardcoded at all! Think vehicles in regular bf2- anyone can use em regardless of side.

I think you shouldn't be able to use enemy 50 cal on vehicles but it will let people think twice before they leave a humvee somewhere. But the idea that you can use enemy cars is a good option.

That's not entirely true. You can't gun or drive an APC without a crewman kit, but you can certainly ride in the back. I think the blackout effect would work well for inoperable positions, but all other spots would be open.
It's been awhile since I played vanilla, so I forget how the map works. Can you really see all vacant vehicles, whether friendly or enemy?

Re: Boarding (but not operating) enemy vehicles?
You can still get in those seats however. And even if you do not have the kits you can operate the vehicle for however long until it kills you. That is tied to kits, and unless you want to make it so only enemy kits allow you to drive their vehicles (an unrealistic and gamey mechanic) it would be hardcoded. And as others have pointed out, non teamlocked vehicles show up on the main map.-=x0(GHOST)0x=- wrote:That's not entirely true. Re: Boarding (but not operating) enemy vehicles?
How about not showing ANY vehicles on the popup maps? I hate it when I park my Technical in an alley to reload or drain the vein only to come back to find that somebody dun stole it from meh. You want a car, you gotta see it first. I mean, c'mon is it realistic to have GPS devices that broadcast their positions anyway? I guess the new tards would hide all the vehicles at the start of a round. Too bad you couldn't have a "radar" like tool (from vBF2) available to the commander that would allow him alone to scan for vehicles. Have it show both friendly and enemy with no distinction or movement (static). This actually sounds realistic (vehicles being metal an all).
prolly hard coded or already suggested...

Re: Boarding (but not operating) enemy vehicles?
Ok guys from working with the editor I know how this works
The mapper sets up the sides say side 1 is PLA side 2 is USA
Now when I have a PLA vehicle I will tell the editor this is team 1 vehicle, and that the thing will be locked to team 2 so we don't have people running around hijacking the other team vehicles
I dont think there is any way around it
