So i'm new here..

Post by AsystoleUK »

Can't believe I hadn't heard of this mod before that silly popup message from EA came through on the Battlefield 2 lobby.

Decided to give it a try due to the lack of teamwork on Battlefield 2 and some of the stupid features you see in the vanilla game.

Tried some training last night, where I learnt that although my PC can run BF2 vanilla on max settings, I have to run Reality on low :(

Moved from training onto a real match perhaps a little hastily.. though I was impressed. I joined a squad and everybody moved out together. (Then I got disconnected by Punkfailure). Got back in-game and was left behind on the carrier, however I was pretty impressed to see that a couple of people were actually doing nothing but transporting stragglers in helicopters and actually making an effort to help each other. I even got stranded in a base at the beginning of a huge city map and somebody drove all the way back to pick me up.

Then all the squads were full.. so I was a little lonely and unwilling to lead one during my second ever match, and got completely raped by supression fire whilst being incredibly lost and nervous due to the rockets flying overhead and constant gunfire. Must say though, the atmosphere is a lot more immersive than vanilla BF2.

So yeah. Random ramblings over. Just wanted to say that from the couple of minutes I had of playing this last night at 5am after waiting for the downloads to finish, blearly eyed, I was amazed. It looks incredible.

Now i'm off to try and find a squad. :3

Hi, mate!

Welcome to PR and to PR forums! If you want to join a server with lots of decent squads, join TacticalGamer. There WILL be a few lads that will gladly accept you and give you some tips! Don't "forget" if you join TG server while there are 62 players you will get a message telling that you have been banned/kicked from the server by admin etc. Don't worry! TG reserves 2 slots for admins, you will join successfully when there are less then 62 people.

See you on the battlefield, soldier!

Perhaps someone could answer two problems i'm having. I'm on Operation Barracuda and have the option to spawn on several land locations, or the carrier. If I try to spawn on land it boots me back to the carrier in mid-air and I take fall-damage..

This happens if you try to spawn on a RP(Rally Point) that doesn't belong to your squad.

A RP is placed by a Squadleader with an officer kit. There is a small number next to the spawn point that indicates which squad it belongs to.

I would download pbsetup from evenbalance.com and update pr/bf2 this will minimize your CTD's. Just giving u a heads up there is a CTD (crash to desktop) problem when switching servers, somewhere in the million lines of code for PR something is been corrupt or somthing so if you get disconnected just rejoin, what i actually do is even if i am loading a new server i unload resources and then just rejoin the server, u wont even miss a min of game play because theres like a 3 min wait till the round starts.

Welcome, glad you like. Best thing to do is get to know some people so you always can get a half decent squad together.....

As you have discovered, your team mates are everything, but the game seems to mostly attract the right kind of people. Not every round of PR is good, but the great ones you remember for a long time.....

Yo bud, join the club! I'm teaching 3 other guys basic PR gameplay on Fri. From 3-4pm EST, add me on xfire and join in the class :-P

ESPECIALLY if you want to learn how to fly. I will give you a thorough %100 teaching of all things aviation in PR, mainly because I'm scared to death of yet more clueless pilots leaving smoking hulks on deck!

My first experiences of PR were pretty identical to yours.

One cool thing was the flashbacks I got from my military training :D . There were some obvious similarities. First, climbing into the back of a truck. Then being taken to somewhere I've never been before or even knowing where I'm going. Not sure when to get out of the truck. Not knowing what will happen or what I'm supposed to do when I do get off. The general feeling of not knowing what the hell was going on :D

Although I didn't have to be afraid of getting my head blown off during my training :P

Later on I started getting the hang of things and (talking about PR now) we did come in contact with the enemy, although I didn't see them quite so often as my teammates seemed to (or the enemy saw me).

Welcome to the community, as already mentioned there are many people
that can give you guidance.

When you can, try and aquaint yourself with PR Manual, it will give
you an insight into some of the main differences between PR and BF2

Best advice is join a server (English Speaking) try and join a squad
with clan members in it and explain that you are new to the game.
Then follow instructions and learn as much as you can.

Most important have a great time.

See you on the battlefield.

Thanks for all the friendly welcomes ;d Perhaps it is time for a new card. I'm running with a Radeon x1650.. not the best of cards tbh. It seems I can run on high with shadows and aliasing turned off on a regular map, but in training where theres a load going on, I can barely even spawn :P

Make sure to turn down "textures" to mid or low. That's the one that really did a big difference for me.

But even if you have to turn down everything to low to make the game run, it's still worth it.

Since you're from the UK, I recommend the server UK Warfare - I'm not affiliated at all, but that's where I generally have found the most mature players and the best teamplay.

I'm Menigmand or (x)Sandbag(x), so if you see me around, give me a shout.

Usually I'm leading the squad since nobody else wants to take charge :)

My last round was hilarious. I lost count of how many times I got dropped into the thick of it by a chopper then prompty mutilated by heavy gun fire!

Not been able to play much the last week but work is now out of the way so I will be around all night, late into the night, on a training server for a short while first though. (Tonight)

Just in case anybody feels like taking me under their wing :P
