Personally, when debating about realism, when there aren't any drawbacks, why not actually implement it?

Cheditor wrote:The evac problem i think i have a solution (sorry if its been said just im rushing and not rly time to read another 2 pages of posts) On maps that have jets there are 2 planes which required only 3 kits needed for to fly them. Implement your jet pilot kit idea but limit it to only 3, so you wont be able to go HALO jumping as if you did you would get kicked for just wasting time instead of flying a jet.
Ya i think it has been suggested already but most ppl wont waste an asset like a plane cuz its a long spawn time and well if you do something like that you getting kicked for sure if not banned.

Mary.au wrote:Alright, this is looking good!

Just to recap:

Helo Pilot;
- No chute - to prevent para drops and the like
- Knife & carbine - for self defense if forced to crash land
- Unable to pilot planes

Jet Pilot;
- Has a parachute - for when shot down at high alt
- Only a pistol, realistic, and as a jet is valuable asset most pilots wont ditch for a few kills
- Unable to fly choppers
- Would request a new kit (helo pilot) if picked up by chopper, again to prevent para drops

Ok with that recapped, can we have a word from the dev's as to whether this is a possible/realistic etc idea?

And are there any minor flaws we've missed that need to be addressed/fixed?

I think that its just time consuming for a person to keep switching over from pilot kit 1 to pilot kit 2, I dont like the idea of taking out the parrachutes becuase since when do you ever see a heli pilot jump out and para drop? (ive only seen it on training servers) and if its only on training servers then your taking part of the fun out.
and it shouldnt change that you need 2 dif kits to fly

so i think we should still keep the parachutes and not change to 2 diffrent kits. :-)

I don't know if this has been addressed, but if you give the Jet pilot a chute, but limit him to where he cannot board a chopper, then wtf would the emergency smoke nades/survival gear be for?

Getting shot down over enemy territory would be a death sentence because pilots would not be able to get extraction.

Terrible idea.

They want to change it so then when a heli pilot is shot down he can have some sort of defence when the enmy comes looking for him cuz he was shot down.
People used to grab pilot kits and jump behind enemy lines because the piot kit had a pistol. so they would load up the chopper with pilots fly behind and all bail out kill some guys and take their kits. you dont see it now because the pistol is gone so the have no need to jump out of the chopper.

And sure its fun to skydive on the training servers but thats not the only part of this game sorry to say.

they can still get extraction they may need to run a little bit to find a clear landing zone but a good pilot can get in and out fast and stay low.So they still need smoke.

Don't dismiss ideas at first glance ;) You might see a problem, but there's always a solution.

I've already answered this numerously throughout the thread, and within the first post.

Here's two easy fixes (I personally prefer the second one)

Well, yes. That, or we could provide a single seat, the front copilot seat, for downed pilots to return in, which might allow kit limiting if needed, though that's a topic in itself that doesn't need to be discussed.

Otherwise, yes. The list you've recapped is correct.

So one seat for one pilot?

I'm going to assume that you forgot that some aircraft require more than one pilot.

Not to mention that there will always be arsehat n00bs who will refuse to give up the front seat for some god forsaken reason.

The point is, it can still work out. Currently, the only two-seat bombers are located on an old, hardware intensive map that is rarely ever played any more. If it ever comes to the fact that both pilots manage to bail before going down, you can always use your head.

What this suggestion allows is for wanted gameplay and realism to be combined in a productive manner. Sure, you theoretically still "exploit" some charactersitics, but it wouldn't actually be exploitation, because it would offer no advantages ;)

In the odd scenario that two pilots are stranded in the same spot at the same time you can:

  1. Have one grab a helo pilot's kit off the helicopter so that you can both ride.
  2. Do a round trip and pick 'em up one at a time.
  3. Request transport other than from a helicopter.

Just to name a few. The case you are trying to make against the suggestion is of the same line of thought as "Well if I can't warm my turret up within 30 seconds, what do I do if a tank is about to shoot me?"

Players will adapt. And every suggestion has had it's "bad sides". But they're up to interpretation. For this one, most people don't actually see the jet pilot/helo extract as a negative, since we've brainstormed solutions.

Lastly, as I've said before, you can't hold so tightly to tradition that the slightest flaw is reason not to change. If it weren't for the fact that DEV's started making a few changes, regardless of some "flaws", Project Reality would never have been. Besides, if we do implement this, and there are unforeseen problems, it's always easy to simply change them with a hotfix, or with the next release.

I can see it already. Some guy getting shot down right after taking off. Be it bad luck or just not being able to fly. Lands in a bad spot. Helo comes to pick him up and he tries to grab up the helicopter kit and...

You just requested a kit. You'll need to wait to request another one.

The Helo pilot is typing in all caps, "GET IN DA CHOPPA!"

The Jet pilot is going trying to type back.

Giant cluster of ****. Helo waits around and they finally take off only to explode later from the sneaky combat engineer that had been sitting in the same spot for an hour and a half cause he saw all this coming and threw a slam on the helo.

As a purely infantry fighter I can only say 'Meh.' None of that really concerns me but heck it doesn't seem like a -bad- idea and that is probably the worst that can happen is what I described.

Cheesy, your above hypothetical situation does not really makes sense.

The reason, I doubt you would be able to request an aircraft pilot kit, warm up the engines, taxi onto the runway, take off, climb to 300m, jump out, land safely next to a chopper, within the time limit that prevents you from requesting a new kit.

BUMP. Any comments from any DEVs? 3 days unnoticed/uncommented on an (imo) good, and well thought out suggestion isn't too good of a sign. I mean, especially seeing as a majority of players disliked the pilot changes, ESPECIALLY the military advisors :p

Comments/Remarks?

Maybe the protocol for approving a suggestion is much more complex than for responding to a flawed suggestion, as a dev can quickly say "Sorry not possible" when they see a problem, but when no immediate problem is present they probably have to communicate and prepare a response that reflects the majority of teams stance.

Either that or they're lazy.

I would hope so. But still... Any comments from the DEVs at least? I mean, it's combining realism AND ending any unwanted gameplay. This would, if anything, encourage pilots to survive.

This is a suggestion of pure win. Especially linked with the helicopter damage/crash suggestion.
