Stealth

Post by glowjack177 »

Its something i dont see much of.

Most of the time people fire on sight and given a minute or two and it becomes an infantry grind as reinforcements show up.

But why? On search and destroy maps i can usually get 1-3 caches myself just by being silent, only returning fire, and looking for where the insurgents run form to trace it back to a hideout or cache. (ironically my cache destruction rate actually goes down when working with others)

It's such a waste of potential on PR which has such huge maps(compared to BF2) with such good cover .

Same thing for the insurgents, don't fire from the cache building, that's the number one insurgent mistake.

Don't run straight from your cache, spawn at a close hideout if possible or simply take an extra block.

And finally don't run straight at the enemy, this is the biggest and dumbest mistake any player can make. Flank. You may save 10 seconds by not going around a block but you risk 1 ticket , losing your kit, and a 30sec respawn time.

Of course to be fair there are many players who do not make these mistakes, i myself sometimes choose to be a rambo just because i can.

PR can be so much more just as it is right now.

Favorite tactic is laying low and holding fire as a whole group of bad guys walk by then continuing on your way to your objective. Its a rush!

Sadly, stealth IS limited at ranges..

I wish we could do what we do with tall fields of grass (where you can see them all the way to the draw distance) with all grass... >< Cause then hiding and sneaking would be SO much easier...

I love korengal for stealthy play, I usually grab a sniper and go up in the hills rack up a bunch of kills and they never knew were it came from.

And if you think about it ins has allot of stealth when you set up ambushes, wait till the last moment and everyone opens up.

but the point is normal grass only draws up to 1km in length... :( I want full-blown grass to cover all parts of land... I don't care if my comp can't handle it... >< I wanna be stealthy.. just like i believe shadows should be forced... for the sake of me hiding in them.

I second that. But then I wonder to myself, how many players have I ran by while they were hiding? It's a scary thought.

Good example of good stealth in PR is on cuda, there are little trench type things and little hills you can hide in all the way up to ur objective

I agree. Lots of people just begin fireing when they see someone.

Whenever I squad lead I prefer to get my close as close as possible before firing. Maybe even right on them. So I always say: Dont fire unless you get fired upon. Works pretty well. And it works wonder for the following combat. When we all die almost instantly I fall back and try from another angle. Another stealthy aproach and than we usually pull it off since the enemy is still watching our old position

I didn't really mean hiding everywhere, i would still like to see littlemen in my scope. It's about finding places to hide, not being hidden everywhere.

I agree, on most maps stealth plays no role at all.
One of the few maps is Khorengal Valley were you got to use quite much stealth as Taliban.
It was very fun when my squad was in a village and a HUMVEE approached and everybody began running in all direction for cover. i had to lay just next to the road and face the wall playing dead.

I agree people do need to use stealth more but there are people who use it too much. I was in a squad other night and i noticed an enemy MEC squad with a HAT. I pointed out and i also pointed out that they were right behind an APC. So to protect the tickets and the apc we should of attacked the squad but our squad leader wanted to get closer being more stealthy, by the time we got there the APC had been blown and the squad had moved on.

Too bad the BF2 engine sucks at this. If it does render overgrowth at such long distances, this game would be nothing BUT stealth

I agree, I usually do single player which means you fight with nothin but dumb who shoot at whatever enemy they see, while I sneak around and get behond there no security lines and then pinn there soldiers down as they leave torwards the front, but anyways stealth is a major factor in warfare at least for me...

when i lead a squad, i always have my people hold fire until they are either discovered (enemy right on top of em) or until i am sure i have an advantage.
most of the time i try not to get bogged down in firefights, pins you down and lets the enemy flank you and grenade you.

when i am an infantry squad, i always try to have my guys walk in cover and below hilltops where you are harder to see.

i will also try to avoid combat until i have found the enemies high priority targets, firebases and the like.
lying still and avoiding combat can lead to advantages.

in barracuda, my squad managed to sneak south of the airfield flag and when our friendlies started attacking from the north, we rushed the building, killed the defenders and took the flag in great time

so yeah, use stealth when you can, and big explosions when you have to.

Having your 5/6 members of a squad engage an enemy from one direction, then stealthily sending an adept player around, often results in John Rambo style knifings of whole enemy squads.

I've done this multiple times. People just don't tend to set guards in the game.

While your entire squad is peeping through their scopes at other guys, guess who's sneaking up behind you with a big fat Kabar? Me.

Im the flanking type so whenever I lead a squad we always come up behind them and I set the rules of engagement to be dont fire unless fired upon. Works great.

You actually have squad members that listen to you? wow

But yeah, stealth is awesome, IF you have some sort of cover. The fact that we are in an artificial world with a stupid engine really restricts that.

I must say though, the trees on Korengal are awesome. The best cover available on any map.

note:

people hardly ever use kwala's, gullies, road side ditches, shot up walls, riverbanks, the water itself.
all these aspects give you a degree of cover. but foremost they will give you an easy and covered approach.
on maps like korengal just use the mountains to hide your location.

Playing dead actually works, as long your face down in a corner with as little of your gun visible as possible.
but laying still in your surroundings will generally give you some sort of concealment.
(always move to the best cover you can find but in absence, laying still can just save your but.)
