Is there a way to turn off all blood effects?

Post by Wraith123 »

Hey guys, Just downloaded Project Reality today. I must say, I didn't like original Battlefield 2. I thought it would be awesome because it has vehicles and what-not, but it only ended up being a cross between CoD 4 and Enemy Territory: Quake Wars (Or at least to me). This mod though, makes the game hard to stop to play either of those games! I love it. Though I haven't tried it yet (and i can't till tomorrow, got to sleep), Project Reality Single Player looks awesome, considering my younger brother can't play internet. I had a question though. Me and my bro want to play co-op against bots, but do you know if its possible to turn off the blood effects? I can play with them but my bro isn't allowed to. By all blood effects I mean blood spray from getting shot, blood on your screen when you get shot, etc. Everything must go if my brother is to have any chance of playing it. So, would anyone please be able to help a brotha out? Thanks and peace dudes. :15_cheers

How old is your brother? My advice is rather than removing features Project Reality has implemented as to misrepresent the mod, get him to play with them. When I first played with my brother he hated PRSP, but now I play PRMP with him whenever we have the time.

Blood effects such as pink mists are already turned off and only show a white puff on the body when it's been hit. As for turning off the blood effects when getting shot it's an overlay that I think can be removed if you arent running PB and are on singleplayer but it's really a key part of gameplay.

I don't think he wants blood effects removed because his younger brother doesn't want to play with them but more likely a 'parents thing'.
I could be wrong though...

No comments on the strictness of his parents please. Just try to help, or say that it is not in fact possible to do this.

if u replace the client shaders folder in the PR folder with teh shaders from the BF2 folder, would that work?

or would that just remove the suppression effect?

btw, make sure u don't modify ur main PR folder in this way, you wil get kicked for MD5 tools by PB online.

if som1 confirms the above suggestion (as I'm a moron or somthing :wink :) You might consider making a copy of ur PR folder and renaming it and the associated shortcut so that any modifications won't interfere with u enjoying the MP part of the mod

erm, it was possible when PRSP was hamachi hacked, but now it runs on servers ill have to check, you may still get MD5 tool kicks tbh.

I'll test it out tonight, see what happens

Exactly. He's only 10. Thanks for everyone's replies btw. The only thing I'd be doing with him would be PRSP playing a LAN server against bots. I know you guys all say that turning off the blood takes away from the gameplay and what not but, come on he's only 10. Thanks.

Wraith, I sent you a PM as to how you can remove/change the effect for the purpose of local singleplayer or coop.

I concur, infract me if you want MODs but I think it's really messed up to consider this kinda violence as acceptable as long as there's no blood or gore involved, if anything I think it's much worse cos it displays this violence as inconsequential.

Off-topic I know, but I really think if you reckon your bro is mature enough to play PR then he should be mature enough to deal with the blood and such. Don't wanna lecture you or come across as patronising, but I just think that you should consider that.

I know man, I know, but try explaining that to my parents. At least I can own awesome games like CoD 4, Bioshock, and Fallout 3.

Fair enough, if it's just a problem with your parents not understanding your bros maturity then that's understandable, just thought that you might wanna think it through before you let your bro play on games like that. I was playing doom and stuff like that when I was 6 and it's not like I'm some violent psychopath, that whole connection is pretty redundant, but more importantly you wanna make sure that your bro knows that in real life stuff like this is pretty nasty, the last thing you wanna do is trivialise something as harsh as warfare.
