Armory

Post by nick20404 »

What about an armory in the main base of all factions except INS/Chechen, It would be a room with 4 stalls each with a pickup kit, all of the kits will just be the standard, riflemen, medic, specialist.

The simple reason for this is because you cannot request these kits so if you spawn with the wrong kit the only way to get the right one is to kill your self in turn wasting assets IE tickets.

It would have to be a request system for the medic at least since its getting limited for .9 afaik

but yeah..."I got the wrong kit" at the main, could easily be remedied by this

Well if the medic is going to be a request kit it would not even need to be in the armory in the first place.

Well I have been playing PR since minimod status and I never remembered a place were you could get regular kits, there has always been pickup kits though. Also I searched for this idea and nothing came back so were was it posted?

That is nothing like what I am suggesting maybe you should read both of them over, unless you were just comparing that they both had the word armory in them. But I guess it was good as your first post on these forums ;-) . Anyways what that guy is suggesting is completely impossible for the BF2 engine, what I am suggesting is not the same thing at all the only similarities are the fact that its an armory in theory.

Although a varitaion on an already suggested theme, its an intelligent one that could solve alot of un-needed hastle for what (on the face of it) seems simple.

What you suggested was a "Build your own kit" deal, grabbing whatever item you wanted, how many of that item, etc, which is definitely impossible and certainly a waste of netcode. What he is suggesting is completely possible, also not completely unreasonable. However, there is no real need for it, and I think the Devs have better things to do with their time.

I can see this being useful, like when you go back to base to rearm and need a different standard kit (switching from rifleman optics to rifleman ironsights or rifleman specialist or to medic (although word is medic will be requestable), but I think it is something we can live without.

It's not hardcoded at all. The thing is the DEVs have a "do it yourself" attitude when it comes to things that aren't directly related to their develpoment plan. Which is why all the community factions: Canadian, French, Australia, PLAN, Dutch, Germans, Russian, they all came from community members who pushed a suggestion, but did it in such a way to get others involved in the undertaking. Of course those were big projects, so it's a bit different.

I'm sure if you pitch the purpose, effects, and all the positives attributed with this, you could convince someone to model the armoury (or at least the lockers or w/e, building shouldn't need to be modeled, we have many already). I'm interested in seeing this modeled ingame. Would be a nice flavour and change in the kit limiting system, one that convinces squads to RTB whenever necessary.

Personally, I'd pitch it along the lines of "We can no longer spawn at rallies and FOBs and simply request a kit off of them. Why not take this concept further and make it so if you exit main without everything, you can't just get it off of crates".

Or something like that. Unless you just want armouries to be introduced, in which case you should say something along the lines of "Project Reality has constantly been moving towards realism, changing everything in vanilla BF 2 from something as big as gameplay, to the all-important details such as accurate models. The new arming station at main base is nice, but we must complete the piece by further proliferating the game to include an armoury, rather than simply rely on a workaround when we can easily accomplish total environmental realism."

why not have your squad mate shoot you in the face....wait for your kit to disappear....make sure you select the new kit you want in spawn screen....get revived with new kit.... to easy and apparently realistic...remember if it's in this game then its realistic....(sarcasm intended)

Because some servers don't allow shooting in the main base or team killing?
