Beginners question

Post by Goodfrey »

Hi!

I´m a Bf2 player and like to try Project reality. My question is if installing this mod will affect the original Bf2 in any way. I mean.. can I still play on public servers online with my original Bf2 and Sf expansion when I feel like it? Will Punk Buster allow me to play for instance.

I don´t want to "quit" playing orginial Bf2 just because I want to try Project reality.

Thanks for all advise!

BF2 will be completely unaffected by installing PR - they are launched seperately
Although, PR will make you quit BF2 anyway if you like games that are more tactical - it's that much better

Just remember to edit your controls before going ingame, not while playing. Have fun.

i have heard of examples of pr turning off auto reload in vanilla bf2. but except from that it shouldn't affect it at all. and to be honest i can't remember if this still happens.

Just create a new profile for PR (maybe add .pr to the end of your name or something like that), and there will be no conflicts with vBF2 or any other mod.

Punkbuster kicks me from server for "modified content" on every map change in vBF2.
Prolly an easy fix, but I dont bother since I dont play vBF2.

No problems with punkbuster in PR

I use different profiles cause I prefer totally different settings in PR

So if I first install PR and after that I create a new charcter (lets say "Beginner") and give that character profile .pr in the end.

example: Beginner.pr

...then it should be no problem if I use my original profile while playing original Bf2?

Sure, but you don't have to add .pr, you just obviously need a new name if you want to create a new profile, simplest way is to just keep your current name and add something to the end :) .

But yeah, you also don't really need to create a new profile either, but having things like auto reload, crosshair colour, map transparency settings, etc that are defined in the profile constantly being reverted when you load PR can become annoying if you wish to continue playing vBF2.

No problem at all but, as said by $kelet0r, if you begin PR say goodbye to bf2 anyway... It's much much better. You have to give it some time though because at the beginning it will seem a bit hard and overwhelming

There is more controls to assign in PR... For example, you have 2 comorose in PR instead of 1.

Try to read the manual first and please, please, don't try an aircraft for the first time on a public server, go on a training server.

exactly. Just use your old name for bf2 and the new .pr one for PR. Even if they cross over it SHOULDNT ruin anything, but yeah, just keep them separate to ensure there are no problems.

Well, yea, like the others said. If you start PR with one profile, this profile will have the auto reload turned off, crosshair colour turned white, and minimap transparency changed to the way it is in PR. But all those things I had this way before even playing PR anyway, so for me that's not an issue at all, though I didn't really play BF2 for years anyway.

So, just listen to the guys in blue. Create a new profile for PR if "no auto reload" or white crosshairs are a problem for you in vanilla, though you can of course just change that back any time.

Is auto-reload out of PR now then? I turned it off before it was mandatory so I didn't notice if it got taken out.

PR has a steep learning curve though. You'll probably wonder from where you get shot, the first few minutes. Just hang in there and stick with your squad and you'll be just fine, trust me.

Oh yeah, if you don't already have a microphone, it's best to get one. Even the cheapest microphone will do. It makes the game much more intense and realistic (almost everyone uses a mic ;) ).

I only had PR affect ONE part of my BF2 gameplay. Before PR, if i tried to fire an empty gun, it would auto-reload in BF2. Now it won't .. :P I have to do it manually! Gone are the days of being lazy!

Hi all!

Thank you for your help. I have now installed and played PR for the first time. All went well. Hell of a hard game to master but really interesting. Gonna read up in the manual and keep practise. Cross my thumbs and hope not to die too fast.

See ya on the battlefield!

pr will make you use cover and generally make you a lot better at vbf2. plus all the ladies will want you and money will be thrown at your feet by all people. It is that awesome.
