Mi-2 Hoplite for the militia

Post by Dragonfire43560 »

I think the Mi-2 hoplite would be an excellent addition to the militia.

I know a lot of people want the Hind for them but i think this is a better compromise. Its smaller, less armored and just plain more suitable without being too overpowered. It can be armed with rockets and a cannon.

And it can also carry a small number of soldiers.

I think these helis would be small enough to avoid detection by the Western armies and would be very easy to hide in makeshift helipads.

They would be great on fools road just to spice things up.

Did Chechnya ever mass use helicopters?

This mod is slightly in the future, it is VERY possible and even highly probable for Chechen rebels to obtain a helicopter of some sort.

But PR focuses more on conventional war. If Chechnya did use a chopper it would not be for alot of their battles. Plus most Chechen maps are the exact same foresty map rendering choppers useless.

There isn't much information about RL use of helicopters by chechens..
If you could provide us with proof that they did/do, then it would make your suggestion much more valid. As far as I know, yes PR does focus on the future, but it also bases itself on current facts about assets (currently issued to conventionnal forces or that will be issued to them in the nearest future) in order to implement assets. Without proof that chechens used/bought those helicopters, I doubt your suggestion will ever see interest.

Many would like to see Chechens with the Hind, it's also very unlikely.. However it's less unlikely to see in PR because we have already access to Hind models (from SF, OPK or USI) while the Mil Mi-2 is currently inexistent and requires a completely new model.

They wont add the hind because the collective bonerism from it would crowed the maps. Besides, the MEC would get them before the Chechens would.

That helicopter actually looks cute...I don't think I could shoot it down even if I had to.

I can't see the Chenchens using helicopters. Why by one helicopter when you could by two dozen BDRMs, three or four tanks or a large number of MANPADS systems? Helicopters are very bad for most insurgency type warfare -they can't move fast, drink fuel and make on hell of a noise. They are "a privilage of the rich and well founded" I suppose.

If the Hind ever gets released in PR, it should go to the Russians. I remember old map designs of the sub-community mentioning it too. I hope that it's being textured now in secret. :)

"At the start of the conflict between Chechnya and Russia, Chechen president Dudayev
had nearly 265 aircraft. Nearly half of the force had been left by the Russian army when it evacuated the Chechen Republic in 1992. The abandoned aircraft included 80 L-29 Delfin combat trainers, 39 L-39 Albatross trainers, three MiG-17 fighters, two MiG- 15UTIs, as well as six An-2 and two Mi-8 helicopters. Only about 40 percent of the force, however, was combat ready."

All were destroyed on the ground in late 94/early 95.

Helicopters for the Militia and Insurgents have been suggested before. Not likely to happen.
