Squad teamwork?

Post by ephexx »

I am new to PR, only been playing about a week, but I have noticed the majority of the time I am in servers there aren't many decent squads, if any open at all! Ones that have empty spaces are often locked which really annoys me, unless it is a certain-player only required squad such as sniper and spotter, or TOW, etc. but when it is a simple infantry squad and three people are in it with it locked, that is annoying because others are forced to join transport squads or create one by themselves..

Where do you find squads with well-coordinated teamwork? A lot of communication, common sense, and a squad leader assigning roles and telling people where to go.. A lot of the times when I join a squad and ask what they need and where to spawn, they don't really respond.

Try making your own VOIP squads. If i'm in a server that seems to have no teamwork, i make a squad and kick anyone that doesn't talk or at least type actively. After acouple weeks of gaming, I get invited to join the good squads regularly. Once people see that your a good communicator and team player, the good squads will find you. whatever you do, don't just create or join a squad to get a certain kit (cough...sniper) then immediately leave to go off on your own. if i have people do this in my squads, i will kick them from the squad as soon as the game starts so they have to wait a couple minutes to get the kit they so eagerly wanted. Just keep chugging along and the squad problem should work itself out. oh yeah, don't be the guy who causes the squad bug in the server. happy hunting!!!

Okay, that's good to hear.. I had just posted this and immediately joined a server where I experienced, for the first time in a few days, some good squad team-work, where we defended a target for the entire game and held our positions. I hope to find more squads like this as I am definitely a team player, I love to coordinate and execute plans as that is where the fun's at ^^. If I wanted to go rambo-style I'd just play normal BF2, COD4, or CS.

Thanks for the response!

remember your pistol is a great execution weapon for insubordinate soldiers. Use fear to keep them inline if you must, but if your a good leader then people will listen which happens after the first round for me.

Ah, you would think executing squadmembers would get you kicked because it would look like you are TK'ing for no reason. But yeah, next time I encounter that situation where there are no squads I will try and make my own.. I just don't feel I have the experience yet, having only been playing for about a week or so, to lead a squad effectively.. But the only way to learn is to try.

Well you can call it "newVoip" or something like that.Got to start somewhere ;-)
Experience helps but a lot of veteran guys don't necessarily like to play as SL,so
if you get a few good (old) ones they'll help you out (hopefully) with details.

-Decent US servers are Texas Teamplayers(Haven't played it in a while though) and TCombat, iGi and T&T are good European servers. Basically the only servers I play on right now. A good idea might be to add New, Newb, or something like that to your prefix or informing squads you join that you're new to the mod. When looking for a squad to join there's a few "rules" to follow:

(if mid-game)
Squad leader has Officer's Kit
Squad has a rally point
Squad has a custom name(Bothering to make a name, especially if it shows the squad role, i.e Inf, Armor, Mech Inf, etc, means a bigger chance of a SL that will stick around and has some sort of plan)
Squad is in the same area(If they're scattered they're probably not working together)
Squad is somewhere relevant on the map(Attacking, defending, somewhere in between, or close to an objective)
Squad has an ok score(Score isn't important but it shows some measure of skill and ability)

(at map start)
Custom name
Squad leader says hello, designates players to roles, sketches out a basic plan, etc.

-I'd also suggest you get Mumble(Download/Install/Setup instructions here) as a lot of the community members and teamplayers in general use it. Just log on to the PR Mumble server(Listed in the link), check out the channels for players and join one(Please don't talk in Mumble until you're on the map as everyone will hear you if you start talking before that), then join the corresponding PR mod server. TCombat and iGi are usually the most populated Mumble channels(Excepting the Australian/South American channels).
