Ban/kick non-positional in Mumble

Post by KingKong.CCCP »

Would you support a general rule on official PR mumble server, that every guy who is talking not-positional (not-linked, or Force Center Position) in Mumble should be kicked/banned from the channel?

Also everyone should go through the setup.

Right, it's a good idea but first you need two things :

1 - Per-server Admins.
2 - PR-exclusive Mumble ver. with sound muted when you're not recognized on a spot on the map (when you're loading/when you're dead-dead, wich forces FCC).

Before that, it's up to common sense and current admins.

Seems a bit harsh....mumble is damn confusing for some people in it's current state (that is if they don't read the setup tutorial :-P )

Still, I don't support this really hostile attitude towards the clueless some people have been exhibiting lately.

I mean, I get pissed myself at helo-crashing newbs ingame, but I really think going all ban-happy is not the answer, especially when the victims are the clueless. Ones doing it on purpose without permission, I can understand. But the clueless....comon.

Explain to them that they need to go look at the thread on the forums. Then kick them until they fix it.

I'm only saying that because we don't have admin access on the offical PR mumble server.

if we did, I'd be using the mumble equivalent of !k

Make a custom build with the options you want hardcoded.

I configured some channel admins to each community channel. These channel admins have move/kick and mute/deafen rights on their channels.

I posted in the server admins private forum tuesday but didn't get any response yet... I want to give these powers to current admins of these servers and responsible community members.

Only bad thing is that I need to register them on the server, as there's no easy interface for it right now.

Indeed, I regularly hear dead people on the opposing team talking, it's a pain, but you can't really blame people for getting shot mid-conversation, etc... The fact that people think it's a setup thing is kinda telling - it ain't, it's a BF2 plugin thing...

AFAIK, positional still works when your dead/ wounded. It only doesn't before your first spawn. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes if you have people using non positional, ask them politely to leave the channel and fix the problem.

If they give you hassle or ignore you, get an admin and he will be deal with the issue.

Like dbzao said, we will be adding server admins as channel admins in mumble so each community can be self policing, if you are a server admin please reply in the thread in server admin forum.

I've set it up perfectly, the two players squadded up on the opposing team (who I've been talking to between rounds, obv) had it set up right, but every now and then, despite them being the other side of the map, I'd randomly hear them talking, and it deffo wasn't down to force-centre key issues; this was mid round. I am not sure of the exact nature of the issue, haven't done enough testing, but it mainly (but not exclusively) seemed to happen when I / they were dead and selecting kits, etc.

Ace, are you sure you set Minimum volume to 0%, it should negate being able to hear people across the map. You might also have an older snapshot of mumble. Otherwise I have no idea why that is occurring for you. :(

Yep, I followed the configuration specified in the post here to the letter, it was all pretty self-explanatory.

Nah was up-to-date then, I just updated to the latest version via the in-application link the other day, so will see if that solves it next time I get in game.

Yeah I agree with you I just downloaded and installed it and haven't gotten that much experience with it so if people don't know what to do tell them don't ban them.

I agree with the fact that people shouldn't be kicked/ban but at the same time it's frustrating because there is a complete step by step tuto to make it right for your first time.... Whoever doesn't join with the rigth setup just didn't take time to read and follow this tuto.... Which sucks in my opinion... Let's face it it isn't a 200 pages manual here ... this isn't that long
