Apache Suggestion

Post by Sparatan117 »

Hey guys, I'm a 15R Apache Crew Cheif. It's been a long time since I've actually seen a game that has a decent looking apache. Props to it.

But one thing that makes the Apache great is its nose (TADS and PNVS). The PNVS (Pilot Night Vision System) is sent either to the Screens in the Pilots seat or to his IHADSS. Since the Apache has no Heads up glass like the Cobra, Is it possible that we could have the IHADSS (which is a translucent green glass that sits infront of the pilots right eye) to have like either what the Co-pilot is seeing (TADS) or the horizon with Infer-red (PNVS) and be able to swap between them or something?

That's how we do it in the real world. I'll help out if you guys have questions about programming it but just curious if we could do it?

oh yeah the pilot flys by his PNVS, you cant see over the dashboard over the co-pilots head

Image That optial infront of his eye is the IHADSS

Uhhm...not quite too sure what you're going on about there (I know little about helos) but it sounds a lot like something I saw in a test video once...though that might have just been a radar test vid.

Hey! This is a great idea although having more then one view on the screen(So like having a view of the co-pilots TADS on the right side of the screen and normal view from the cockpit of the left side of the screen) is impossible because it's hardcoded.

I also doubt that it's possible to see what other player does. If it is possible you could have another weapon camera to see gunners TADS, although that would be shown on the whole screen so you wouldn't be able to see in the cockpit at the same time.

That vid looked sick, like what I had in mind, but like, i donno i'd love to be able to have like a mini map style look of that with the **** pit in the main like view. That way you can have both. It takes a professional to be able to focus on both...but we're going for reality arent we ;)

Hahah the comments on that youtube video you posted are so generic;

RacistUberPatriot4567 "urgh, I hate sandn*****s! Kill 'em all! 9/11 9/11 9/11 etc"
CompleteNutcase1984 "9/11 = government conspiracy etc etc"
Typical"Liberal"890 "don't be racist, george bush is a nazi etc etc"
NihlistPsycho666 "lol, you see how there bodies exploded over the place?! etc etc"

never ceases to amuse me does youtube.

Yay, now the pics show up! They didn't last time :|

And no, that wasn't the vid I was talking about, so I think I was off on something else there.

Yes, Youtube is the pinnacle of E-knowledge.

Anyways we're doing another test this weekend if anyone wants to come.

i always like when they update the hud, there is also another thing that could be awesome...

YouTube - BF2 Thermal

Look at 0:24, the white ground and black object, would reflect a nice thermal imagerie for FLIR and attack helo :P

The only problem is that Thermal vision only extends to about 20 feet in front of you. Good for room clearing, but useless for anything else.

What your talking about is Infer red, with Black Hot selected. most people think that its only white and black you can pick but in reality we can actually change the colors to anything we want...such as red or blue or green (green is usually used on machine guns like the 240Bravo)

and that video or something like off of Call of duty 4 where you use the guns in the C130...thats what im referring to

thermal vision limited to 20 feet ? ingame or in real life ? cause in real life they can see pretty far away whit FLIR.

In real life. At least the goggles we had (they were pretty expensive) but we had them tuned to see extreme heats from the helicopter while it was running (yes the blades were spinning above myhead and i was in the catwalk on the back of it right behind the "disco ball".....

but when we got to play with a pair they didnt go very far..we could see about far enough to make out that a vehicle was running or something but people didnt give off enough heat to show up past 20 feet or so.

You know I was thinking about this. You know how we can hit caps lock and the thing for changing your class comes up overtop of your current screen?
what about if we did something like that...where we had the green film like in that youtube video come up overtop of the current cockpit (taking over the entire screen but at 50% opacity), that way you could see the cockpit but still see the horizon or maybe have like you could hit another toggle and have the co-pilots TADS come up

well, i dont know how good the goggles are but we (the army) have many thermal imaging devices that can see several kilometers. for example C.R.O.W. has thermal, the TOW's ITAS has thermal and we put it up in guard towers and HMMWVs as well, w/o the TOW tube (aka donkey puncher). also FLIR like the person above me said on aircraft.

and dont tell me its infer red....it says thermal on the systems.

We're referring to the kind that shows different lights and darks of heat. Such as Image

Now I've never used the C.R.O.W. But I remember there was a Thermal (they said it was really inferred) on the 240B HMG that when you looked through the scope it was like this Image

that second one is the one i prefer and can see pretty far. The other one is very short pretty sure.
