Korengal, add another LB

Post by Rudd »

One of the most annoying things about the LB is that it can't fit a full squad unless the pilot is part of that squad.

It annoys the heck outta me that I have to leave a guy behind, as most people still havent realised the miracle of mumble and therefore I can't easily tell the pilot that my last guy will need a lift.

So, add another LB. This will allow the LBs to work together (TW, yay) to pick up entire squads rather than 5/6 of them.

Sounds like it would work, but what really neededs to be added is a Helipad so the LB can repair.

Doesn't the LB spawn on a helipad? (Or you could drop a repair station next to it)

But two transport LBs doesn't sound in anyway overpowered (unless someone uses them as a LAT platform, but that's another issue entirely...) So I like the suggestion.

I'm not too crazy about the LB, it usually gets shot down very quickly if the insurgents aren't dumb enough to not shoot at it, and it's weak enough to be shot down by a few angry insurgents with their PKMs and AKs.

But adding a LB isn't stupid either, seeing your reasons it's a good idea.

What I fear is that by adding another LB, all you'll get is more idiots wasting them by unproper use rather than efficient transportation of air cavalry. And wasting LBs means wasting tickets.

But eh, it can't hurt that much really! It only means i'll get more ticket-flies to shoot down hehe

PS : But then again, i'm a bit weirded out. Wasn't the LB able to carry 8 soldiers or am I imagining things after playing Qwai 0.8 too much?

LB carries 6, with a non-squaddie pilot, it carries 5.

BH +huey carries 8

In ArmA the LB can carry 8 (3+2+3) including the pilot, is that what you were thinking of Tannhauser?

i you get another littlebird, i as a taliban want mountain climbing gear. that map is just too hard to navigae through, so one lb is more than enough to keep balance :|

I'm really not a fan of the LB either, especially on Muttrah. But if its going to be in, and for the moment lets assume it will since its been on qwai, muttrah etc since forever, we should at least have them on a map in a way that is conducive to gameplay and teamwork rather than presenting us with a problem that makes us think "if I have to leave my sixth man behind...I might as well just bloody walk"

a similar arguement is therefore the humvees, but generally you get multiple hummers on a map.

Just curious, what don't you like about the LB?

Apart from not carrying a full squad.

I'm guessing realism is one of the reasons.

You can repair it with a wrench, I've done it. It's confusing because I thought the wrench repairing ability was removed.

IMO, Adding another LB would be awesome, but then again, that would make more targets for the insurgents :)

I think just a single Blackhawk would work..

Hm, odd.. I've never had problem with repairs, since even though the helipad isn't visually there. The spawn point seems to work as a some sort of repair depot.. Several times it has fixed my smoking LB after some PKM fire.

I gotta try the wrench though, would help in field repairs if that becomes necessary.

Realism is a reason, especially on muttrah (USMC...)

but also, you are vulnerable to fire, n00bish pilots very easily get you killed, moreso than the huey etc in my experience (they more easily flip the choppers as they think they can land them anywhere)

but the main thing is the full squad for me. I mean...IRL would they really go "who's volunteers to be left behind?"

Can't really get in to the mindset if "leave no man behind" is conveniently forgotten for a few minutes :D

about adding a BH...I'm not sure about that because the LZs don't lend themselves to a helo that large, though being able to resupply the outpost by air from a BH would be pretty damned awesome. and the BH survivability would be balanced out by its size and lack of manouvrability compared to the LB. - i.e. Tali technicals could probably take it down if it wasn't alert.

If anything, it needs to be removed, normaly it gets shot down at the helipad and so many tickets are wasted because of it.

Thanks Rudd.

Agreed on all points you raise about the LB.

I don't mind the downsides so much because it's very agile and responsive, and if you know how to land it you can land in some very cool spots.

Whilst I wouldn't care they were replaced by more hueys on Muttrah, I think I would miss it on Army maps unless the blackhawk's handling was improved.

Ya I agree with removing it, every time I play this map its either taken by some noob who flys it around like a scout chopper or it gets killed on the landing pad. Besides its highly unrealistic that a FOB in the middle of a valley would have its own personal LB.
