I have everything on high. My resolution is 1024X768 but strangely, when I take a screenshot, the quality is just a little bit better than the OP's.

Setting the view distance scale to the lowest can give you a slight performance boost. Of course lowering the view distance is the last thing you want to do since you won't be able to see shit.

i play bf2/pr on all low and off settings. my view distance is at 100 and resolution by 800x600 which gives me an estimated average FPS of 40. I will be getting a new computer sometime this month.

Snazz wrote:^Core i7 is certainly great regardless of it's cost, however I really doubt it makes any difference to PR compared to any Core 2 CPU.

IMO to run the BF2 engine smoothly it's more important to have a decent GPU and at least 2gb of ram.

Generally I'd thank any hardware newer then 2004.
Makes a huge difference, take a look here:

He's getting at least double the FPS my HD 4870/3.8GHz C2D (E7300) yields and his GPU is slower. I'm going i7 as soon as I can afford it.

8800gtx is probably better for PR then 4870.

Is he using the exact same game settings, driver settings and resolution?

Do you have the exact same amount of system and video memory?

I find it hard to believe that upgrading to a hyperthreaded quad core makes any noticable difference over a dual core to a game engine designed in (iirc) 2004 with no multithreading in mind.

Buying an i7 system will benefit you in the long run but I doubt it will make any worthwhile difference to PR.

Unless you have vsync or nvidia 3D on you probably won't notice a difference over 60FPS.

You can find all the info about his settings and PC in that thread. I doubted his results too but the screenies don't lie. I had an 8800 GT before the HD 4870 so it can't be because PR likes Nvidia better or anything like that either.

I don't know what you're smoking. I just went from an 8800GTS to a 4870 and it's significantly better.

So you've determined that in most cases where there would be significant performance differences (apart from CPU ofcourse) that he has almost exactly the same setup as you?

I'm just trying to point out that there is a big list of factors to consider, which may be important to you if you're only buying an i7 system (x58 mobos and tri-channel DDR3 kits aren't great value right now either) for more PR peformance.

Keep in mind the 8800GTX has a 768MB of video memory going through a 384bit bus, whereas the best 8800GTS (there was at least 3 different cards with that name) has only 512MB through a 256bit bus. Both ofcourse have 128 stream processors, although at different clocks and die sizes.

At least on the Nvidia side of the graphics war the 8800GTX/Ultra were still the best performing single GPU cards until the GTX280 came along much later. The 9800GTX was basically just a higher clocked late 8800GTS.

No-one needs these hugely uber GFX cards to play PR, just buy a 7950 for next to nothing and crank up the settings, if you save up for a super awesome card by the time you get enough money it will be crappy anyway.

Seriously, you could play on full settings for like £40 at most.
