If they can't be arsed to look for it themselves, I'm not going to give it to them.

Re: Get rid of kill counter
I can´t see exactly how this is going to benefit gameplay? I am kind of don´t care about it, but what difference does checking your kills make? It only comes up when they respawn anyway, and with the current revive situation, its nice to know that someone actually dies during a round.

Re: Get rid of kill counter
It is a Shooter. We are supposed to kill in this game. And for me getting many kills means I did well. (Medics get other rewards) but this is the most basic fundament of this game. Not even at the end of the round, because that would still make people focus narrowly on making that little number go up, up up... numbers in games make the players obsessed, just as the levelling grind for example.
Shoot the guys from the other team. And I want to see at the end of the game how many I killed. Ithink it is great that kills are not displayed immediately but it is very very very important to see how many kills I have at the end of the round.

In fact I did read the suggestions thread first, but I must have missed that line.

Re: Get rid of kill counter
Is it a shooter? Not quite, because a shooter is a game about shooting. PR is a game that features shooting, but is fundamentally about tactics, teamplay and ultimately bringing your team as a whole to victory.Agent Parker wrote:It is a Shooter. We are supposed to kill in this game. (...)
Killing the enemy should be seen as means to that end.
Playing shooters where the point is getting kills is fine - but there are already many such games out there, and I like PR because it offers something different.

Re: Get rid of kill counter
What is te point? "Teamplay" will not improve if I do not see my kills. Most people use teamplay only as much as it helps. If running with a squad gets me more success (=kills) I will stick with a squad. If I am with a squad that is bad and it gets me killed I am not going to follow a squad the next game.I agree of course, removing the kill counter would benefit gameplay, of course the mod would shed off certain players that only play the mod to see their kills, but I think overall it would be a positive change. Alot of other games that are less realistic than PR have the counter removed.
Theres a couple ways it can be done, theres still debate on the easiest way to do it while maintaining some functionality of being able to judge how well you are doing.
I think this is a very weird myth that there are "good" players who would lov nothing more than shoveling themselves into nirvana on a FB just to "teamplay and that there are "bad" players who are only after the kills.
Here is the true reason why people do actually follow squad leaders and help building:
If I follow my SL, he can place RPs, which after I get killed, allow me to spawn near the action so I can respawn and play more (=kill enemy players). If I shovel for a FB, I get reduced spawn penalty. If I protect my supply crate, I get better guns.
This is how "teamplay" works. No one in their correct mind plays this game to
1. shovel firebases
2. stand in the middle of nowhere watching a cap meter go down
We all play it because we like to play a military shooter with realistic gameplay. it is about shooting and killing. And a kill statistic is a way to see if I "won" or played well.

Seriously. You guys do realize this is a game yes? People play games for relaxation and gratification and scores provide gratification. I really don't have time to play for 3 hours to see how well I did.
Usually, I don't even look at the scores, but I do like to have the option.

I guess I'm the only one who actually feels the game is about winning as a teamBattleArena4 wrote: Seriously. You guys do realize this is a game yes? (oh, and by the way, building a FB is good teamplay if it helps the team.. otherwise its just shovelling for points)

You do not have to be an obsessive teamplayer to enjoy this game.

Could it work if you just showed the score but not the kill count? I have a felling people care a bit less about the total score then what they do about the kills/deaths. That way you get ride of some of the kill hunting but players will still be able to see how good they are doing.[R-DEV]fuzzhead wrote:Theres a couple ways it can be done, theres still debate on the easiest way to do it while maintaining some functionality of being able to judge how well you are doing.

Re: Get rid of kill counter
The team score is useless for seeing how "well" I played. For example I once went rambo with a specop kit and sneaked into an enemy FB. I grenaded like 5 players, then smoked the place and placed c4. Killed 3 other player with it.Could it work if you just showed the score but not the kill count? I got 100 points for doing this. Any shoveling crew gets like a few thousand points during a game. Getting a high kill count reflects that you did important things. A good APC gunner gets like 15-35 kills in one game.
This is teamplay. He caused 35 players to have a black screen for 30 seconds. These players could have killed his teammates instead. Also how do you win this game? capping all flags? What do you have to do to cap a flag? Kill the enemies who try to do cap the flags.
Killing = Teamplay = win

Sometimes teamplay is about holding my fire to avoid detection .. even though I have the enemy in my sights. I respect players who can do that.Agent Parker wrote:

Or teamplay can be about volunteering to take a HMMV back to base for repairs, even though that will yield zero kills.
Or it can be about transporting another squad in a chopper to where they neeed to be. Zero kills.
Etc ...

Re: Get rid of kill counter
Whats wrong with seeing how many you have killed? a lot of the time it is the only way I can tell if I have killed someone by looking at the scoreboard, in no way does this affect gameplay as the point is to win, and to do so you need to kill enemies, taking it out would leave uncertainly on kills + would not change the game play in a positive way at all.

Removal of kill count? Oh yes! Love that idea!

Re: Get rid of kill counter
Well said, and my point to this would be that removing the kills from the scoreboard in no way would change this, I nearly always find myself trying to recycle assets on INS maps as people just leave them all over the place.Menigmand wrote:Sometimes teamplay is about holding my fire to avoid detection .. even though I have the enemy in my sights. There should be more of an incentive to do things suck as this. I.e points for repairing a vehicle below 50% health rather than letting it die. Etc, I just dont see the justification for removing the kill counter as it would change nothing...

Re: Get rid of kill counter
The argument is that if players don't feel the kill counter breathing down their neck at every moment, they will be more inclined to do other things than to camp out waiting for the next insurgent to appear in the scope.Tim270 wrote: There should be more of an incentive to do things such as this. And will be more inclined to choose a weak kit, such as the specialist for example, which always seems in short supply in squads..
