Range finders for the Sniper

Post by Kakashi »

Hey!

I was just wondering, if the sniper would be able to have the same Binoculars as the sepc ops, the reaon being Range finding. The Snipers Binos have the grpah type Range on them, but is annoying to have to work out the distance etc while your enemy is about to launch himself behind cover etc. It would be much easier for the sniper to have the red numbers in their bino saying 'Range to target = 140m' or something like that. Only a suggestion

What's the point? There's no bullet drop and no need or way to range in your scope.

Yeah, ive had to up my crosshairs for ranged shots dude. A range finder would be my salvation at times. Maps like El alamein (enough said) is where they are needed. Damn i love open maps like that, shame there isnt a Non armour version of it.

I can only recall getting one sniper kill with the M24 so far and that was from shooting a guy point blank. The Dragunov is great though.

Range finders with Spec Ops are fine, it means you need to work together to get information like ranges. ;)

The only maps a ranger finder would help on are the ones where you can see far enough to the point where the bullet would actually drop.

cool idea make things easier 8) in reality any ways snipers dont work alone they have spotters who use range finders which also detects wind speed and valocity

Thats right.

If you wanna know how snipers operate, watch the movie jarhead, not that accurate to marine behavious (so i heard) but the ways snipers work is accurate. Im not sure if im allowed to say this on the forums, but if anyone wants a torrent for Jarhead, just say.

(Someone just tell me if im not allowed to mention torrents etc on here)

I like this idea because Snipers do have a very good capability to evaluate ranges that the fidelity of the game engine does not permit.

Will see what the other devs think.

I second that.

I would also like the sniper rifles to have scope overlays which are actually usable in determining how to aim while taking the bullet drop in accout.

The horizontal slashes in the crosshair are used to adjust the aiming height to the distance and bullet drop of the target.

I'd love to have these scopes be modelled accurately (for the bullet drop of each weapon) and maybe some documentation on how to use them along with a range-finder binocular.

It would be cool to spot a target with the range finder, seeing the target is 300 meters away, and being able to use this information to use like, the 3rd slash down from the center of the sniper rifle crosshair as the "new, 300m" center (now with bullet drop considered), and being able to actually hit a damn thing :)

Not sure if this is really possible with the engine and / or a pain in the butt to work out, so that people can actually use it.
Also, be sure to have some documentation online in order for people to figure it out..

I agree, I personally think Snipers and Spec Ops should switch binos seeing as Spec Ops have absolutely no need for a range finding device as far as I can see. But also Im not exactly sure why anybody needs ranging devices. If Im not mistaken the mil dots on the Snipers scope dont have any correlation with the actual bullet drop in game. (i.e. the first mil dot down from the center of the crosshair would equal 100 meters, the second would be 200, etc) PLEASE correct me if im wrong so I can start hitting targets with more accuracy.

PS: While were on the topic, does anybody else think Snipers should have an alternative bullet type for a tracer round? In real combat situations Snipers will fire a tracer bullet into an area to direct heavier fire into that spot. Just a suggestion.

No SilvuR, as far as I can tell the dots / slashes have no correlation, unfortunately :(

I REALLY hope they will add this in the future versions, it'd really give some use to range-finder binoculars, because, as of now, they serve no purpose whatsovever, apart from the zoom feature, of course.
It'd be SO sweet to operate in sniper squads of 2 people, with one guy using the binocs to spot targes and tell the other sniper the distance of each target, while the other sniper could take the target down, adjusting his vertical aim according to the range and the dots on the scope.

This brings me to another idea;
If you spot a target with the range-finder binocs equipped, maybe the text-message ("Enemy Infantry Spotted") could feature the distance in brackets, at least within your squad, so every squad member would see the green text like "Enemy Infantry Spotted [320m]" or something. Or maybe the distance displayed on the minimap, next to / below the flashing, red dot ?

That way you could have a spotter even without using voip.

The reason the I think the spec ops got the SIMRAD (just IMO) is because IRL, it has a laser designator on it.I would really love to see it working in future releases
