AI comander

Post by thecoolj85 »

is it possible to have an AI comader that would aprove area attack strikes and firbaces. with out him giving orders to squads just do the mondane tasks and when a player comes up and wants to comand the player just takes over. its similar to the vbf2 comander where if you want to comand click apply and the AI goes away. so is it possible to do that? also take away his ability to tell squads where to go. please discus

as with most things that are AI controlled, an AI commander would be an idiot. the commander is supposed to do more than drop area attacks ya know.

Well if we would have a commander, that would react to our requests aswell as send troops (The nearest) to the designated target zones as defending and attacking wise i think it would be good.

Like having an AI commander, that would react to your request to repairs, he would find first the nearest repair position, and give you a move marker to it or, send a squad to your position with repair support.

And the problem with Area attack is not really a problem, we have idiots dropping jdams everywhere these days anyway. What difference does it make that an AI commander has to confirm it.

If you follow the orders of the commander, you get extra points, if you do it fast, you get more points?

I agree, if its not to hard to code and to buggy. Although C&C and Insurgency would be hard.

if you read it it said make him NOT give orders just do mundane things like say yes to area attack and to firebaces.

i dont think the ai in bf2 are that smart i just want to be able to use mortars every once in a while and imo might as well call it in on one inf than not use it the whole game

In the beginning when i was playing the regular BF2 i found the commander to be a very fun thing to be...

You had all your extra tools at your desposal and could guide give your troops orders ect.

I like the way that in PR you can't zoom all the way in and be the ultimate spy, because that is overpowered in PR and removes the element of suprice.

Now ofcourse a commander gotta command 24/7 since that is his job, what i suggest is that you can't play the commander (Commander is just the voice that inform you about critical stuff like Objective is lost... ect)

Instead you will be able to play a Field Officer "Leutenant"

He is gonna be the man in the field Relaying stuff to the "artificial" commander. Gathering intel from the Fire bases.

your still Accepting Fire base orders from other squad leaders but you can also go out and Setup a special "Field command Base" anywhere on the map. Like the normal Command post you can enter this base and access the radar map and call in Area attacks ect and order squads around.

This Field Command can also be placed near other Fire bases and furthermore fortify them with extra 2 MG nests and wire.

also 2 watch-sandbag towers avalible

Other idea could be a special Humwee or other appropiate vehicle that the Leutenant (or his personal bodyguard/driver) could move around and place closer to the action

Still trying to think of the benefit of having a moving man in charge except that he can see and hear what is actualy going on. Atleast it would make it intresting beeing a Commander when your waiting for intel looking at your silent map....atleast now you can cruise around or place yourself on a key location and observe and give orders from there.

Beeing able to put extra fortification on the Leutenants location would also be tactical i guess.

dude the ai in bf2 are dumb asses they are scripted its best to give them the least amount of things to do and all i want is just to be able to call in motars when needed when no one is comanding. idk if its possible to make the AI/SCRIPTED comander to not talk or give orders cause in prsp he gets on my nerves with his constant spaming of mesages go attack here. im hoping ot get one of the devs imput on this and see if its possible.
