Brakes on Vehicles (or at least light vehicles)

Post by MCI »

Hey, (My first suggestion that wasn't on the suggestions list! :goodvibes )

I don't know if it is possible with the Battlefield 2 engine but I always think about this when driving down a road in PR with a light vehicle. Brakes would make it easier for the driver of the vehicle to react on his enviorment...

Thoughts please... :? :

to just brake, use the reverse button. it takes practice, but I can get the vehicle to stop without any reverse movement.

Handbrakes are a different story, no1 should mention them in this thread...oops

From that I'm sure someone has asked for a parking brake and its' hardcoded.
But does that mean the DEVs don't have access to that portion of the program or that it is impossible for the program to do that ?
But as far as brakes go, use the reverse key as mentioned, especially in rough country when cresting hills to prevent/ minimize damage to the vehicle.

I think planes need brakes, whether it's a parachute or what not.
It is possible to stop immediately - happens when you exit full speed or just change
seats. If the brake button could put the player into a "different seat" figuratively speaking -the vehicle would stop dead.
This would solve the "runways are to short" and other "issues".

Nah, i think it would be abused and then you wouldn't even have to land on the runway...

And how would that be abusive or even help the person not landing on the runway?

You can't rearm your plane at any ol patch of land.

Not if it's possible to link it to the wheels, or give it a one time use (like a chute), that would slow you down to nothing, making you stall if you're in mid-air. If it's possible, I'd love some ABS style brakes applied to the wheels :p

The thing about the landing is that it's possible to properly slow down and land without the "hard brake",but it takes space and time which in itself is not a problem unless there is a pesky AA near your runway or an enemy jet circling and waiting.
If the brake was present we would only "need" 1,max 2 grid squares of space to slow
down from going full speed in Su-30 for example.

Runways are definately too short, or the brakes on the airplanes aren't good enough. To stop properly you either need to bail out once you've landed and are straight on the runway, or stall your plane while your landing.

Just come in from a longer range and slowly decelerate until you get to about 300-500 and decelerate once you hit the runway, and you will slow enough in time.

Isn't their already breaks or air breaks implace on jets I thought when your below 500 and on the landing strip you pull back and it should break and slow you down but only when your going below 500 or you will just take off again

Ya but on the hill side he is still moving, he is never still which pretty much defeats the purpose of breaks. Breaks would only be useful to stop the constant movement of the vehicle when you are trying to aim at long distances with zoom on.

I use my Joystick when controlling almost any vehicle.

Its a Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback Pro

the Throttle stick is great for most vehicels since i can chose my exact speed with it only problem is that it can be tricky to hold still since no movement is 50% on the throttle and 0% is full Reverse.

also for using the wheel it is nice to use the Twisting rudder effect so you can cut corners nicely.

worst thing is that its difficult to use the comma rose menu since you dont have your hand on the mouse.

It needs to be a brake that stops the vehicle at once to stop for a corner or a mine on the ground. Or to take a sharp turn...
