PR and SLI
Does anyone know if the BF2 SLI profile works with project reality?( I have certainly noticed my frame rates have dropped by about 1/3 but dont know if this is because PR is
more demanding or the SLI profile isnt workin anymore?)

Re: PR and SLI
What cards are you using? When SLI first came out I was using 2X 7900GS's. Noticed absolutely no difference in most games. Now I just use one 8800Ultra. I can set at max (@1680x1050) and include nVidia Ctrl panel extra settings too. SLI is really about when you want to use big resolutions, other than that, with older cards at least, its a sham. I think.

Re: PR and SLI
I've got 2 8800 ultras running sli, the maps load up in half the time. Other then that i've noticed no difference. But i've only used non-sli on a few occasions where i've forgotten to switch modes. I haven't changed any settings for bf2 or pr, it just created a default profile for bf2. But i do have it set on global to split-frame rendering. And the bf2 profile is Nvidia recommended so i'm not sure what PR uses.

Re: PR and SLI
I am using x2 nvidia 7800's.
I use nvidia's BF2.exe profile, selecting it before I start to play the game, this has
a big increase in frame rates on the regular BF2 almost doubling them to 60 or 70 fps.
However my question is when I am playing project reality will enabling SLI and running this BF2 prfile increase frame rates.
My framerates certainly drop in PR but I am not sure if this is because PR is a more graphic intensive game or SLI does not work with PR?

Re: PR and SLI
man I had 7900 GTX SLI as well before, then after doing some careful tests, on a 64 person map ( CPU intensive) my frames rates were like on avergae 30 percent increase... whilst at the same time my power usage went up to 250 watts, ( from 150 for 1 card)
although I noticed that I could increaes things like anti alsing, but when I normally play on 4x anti alising, going to 8x just made the game look blurry in my opinion..
with SLI the most I ever gained was in a game called FEAR, where I recorded an increase of 60 percent..
however in most games hardly any increase, with Hindsight.. I would never get SLI again ever but only 1 powerful card..
SLI has proven to me to be a power sucking in efficent unnecessary thing.. and i definetky dont recommend it..

Re: PR and SLI
The nvidia profile uses BF2.EXE, which (for me at least) is what the PR shortcut points to ("C:\games\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +modPath mods/PR +ignoreAsserts 1). It should apply to PR the same as BF2.mac2244 wrote:I am using x2 nvidia 7800's.

Re: PR and SLI
Why would SLI work different for PR compared to BF2?
PR is additionally demanding, but I think that's got more to do with memory usage then shaders.
Regardless of the increased graphics load it's still the same engine.

Basically, AFAIK that's all that SLI gives you - a video card RAM boost, allowing you to push bigger resolutions. It doesn't give you any extra eye candy that a single one of the same cards won't give you.Snazz wrote:Why would SLI work different for PR compared to BF2?

Re: PR and SLI
It gives you no extra eye-candy (visual effects), but it's more than just extra RAM. It uses various techniques to improve processing speed. One method is "alternate frame rendering" where each card takes on rendering sequential frames; another is split-frame-rendering, where each card renders half the frame then sticks them together.spybaz wrote:Basically, AFAIK that's all that SLI gives you - a video card RAM boost, allowing you to push bigger resolutions. It's also capable of advanced anti-aliasing, where the two cards off-set the aliasing in lines rather than using traditional AA algorithms.
There are a few other bells and whistles it can do, but that's the main improved functionality that SLI (or dual / quad core) offers.

Re: PR and SLI
My post was actually about why the OP seems to think that there would be something different about running PR on SLI and running BF2 on SLI.
BTW, There is no extra ram boost...

The graphics memory is NOT doubled in SLI mode. If you have two 128MB graphics cards, you do NOT have an effective 256MB. Most of the games operate in AFR (alternate frame rendering). The first card renders one full frame and then the next card renders the next frame and so on. If you picture SLI working in this way it is easy to see that each frame only has 128MB of memory to work with.

Might be worth it to upgrade if you have the money. A single 8800GT never dips below 90 fps in BF2 on high and 70 in PR. And to answer your question, SLI does work with PR. Your cards or other PC components are holding you back....

Re: PR and SLI
PR is more demanding then BF2, and depending on your settings you might see an FPS improvement with SLI. If you have it, you should use it.mac2244 wrote:I am using x2 nvidia 7800's.

Re: PR and SLI
I've used 2x7600gt and now using 2x8800gt in SLI for PR.
An increase in FPS is about 40% in both cases.Using a custom profile for
Nvidia Control panel.Thing about SLI and Crossfire is you need a high resolution
monitor otherwise there is not enough load (staff to process).
I think 1600x1200 or higher is "recommended" for SLI or CF.
There are also different SLI modes in the NV Control Panel that can be selected.
Also use the `game.lockfps 0 command from the game console.
